According to those who know Tally is the worst possible software you
could use to manage your accounting. Search for Saswata and KG's post
on this list.

If only it were so simple. This is already a quite a bit OT, and going into
details would be stretching it too far (and I have stretched a bit - see below)
But you can look for some guidelines from google itself:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35769
SEO has acquired a bad connotation due to unscrupulous elements, as
can be seen from the tone of:
http://www.google.com/support/webmasters/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=35291
But, the first link (above) is what 'good' SEO-ers will do. As a very
simple example, if
you have a page with many advertisements/partner links (needed for
business), and useful content
of your own, then one SEO guideline would be to use a (non-standard,
but search-engine recognized?)
"nofollow" attribute within the URL tags. Or, to have better sitemaps.
Else, the number of outlinks on
a page would drain your "rank" into those external ad/partner links,
reducing your own
estates' pageranks.
Another example: search for "subversion" on google.com. and see what
additional information you
see along with the first result. See the various categories "found" on
subversion's website.
These are the kinds of things "good" SEO should help you do. It helps
both the business,
and search engines. Search engines aren't _exactly_ as intelligent as
we would want to believe!
They put in place some logic to be "more useful" (this example), and
then more people start
making sure their pages are designed in a way google will "extract"
structure from...

Hi
I am very much interested in LInux
However i run a business and am not one of the techies who is only taking
abount the greatness of opensource
Business requires ready made and strong fundamentals of any platform
The Linux forum should change their approach from promoting open source to
talking about making things simpler to the man on the streets
A typical small business requires the following to cover 99% of its needs
1) An operating system
2) Open office
3) Accounting software india compliant
And remember there is no way to by pass Microsoft hence all the persons who
do not use linux must still get all reports and comunication which can still
be compatible to Windows and Microdsoft or the other leading companies who
offer thier software viz autocad/adobe etc
I wish the LInux platform comes forward and promotes all these together and
takes up a challenge of converting ( let us say 25000 ) businesses in 2008

Applies to the current power-crunch scenario with many people
installing inverters too!
Finally, the amount of energy available is the same, and everyone will
be drawing in more, leading
to more power-shedding, leading to ...

Have been frantically searching phoren malls, e.g. Singapore for a
good, cheap GPS navigator, but they cost Rs.16,000 upwards. And come
with maps for S'pore and Malaysia. I really want one, but don't want
to spend a big amount. New Symbian S60 phones are also a no-no, and
are even more expensive.

There is an opening for a Software Engineer at Red Hat (Pune) in the
team that I am part of. The ideal candidate is required to have a good
grasp of POSIX standards, FHS guidelines and possess familiarity with
LSB guidelines pertaining to distributions. Should be comfortable with
using traditional debugging tools for userspace, can demonstrate
competence in scripting and scripting languages and familiar with the
processes of producing open source software. We are looking at relevant
experience of around 3 years, but that is flexible
If interested, do drop a mail with your CV attached (PDF / text / ODF)
along with a small portfolio of code to sankar at redhat dot com. Please
do put "Software Engineer" in the $SUBJECT line. Please do not reply to
this list.

Hi,
We at E-dutainment Unlimited and our sister concern, Redstreet productions
have been thinking of using blender as our primary 3d software.
But we have our apprehensions regarding the shift.
firstly, we don't have enough
material to train ourselves, as well as train our artists. Can that be
arranged by some organisation ?
How much support can we expect from the community and in what fields ?
what about promotions ?
Our concern is : is there an organisation to support us ? or is there a
group or an individual who can help us out ?
we have a lot more to ask and discuss, but i think, having a personal
discussion would be helpful.
so if someone thinks likewise, he or she can call us at the below mentioned
phone numbers and we can take it further.

Thanking everyone for their help.

HI
I would like to know if there is any account software similar to Tally
available for Linux ( Debian based ) . Red hat had tied up with Tally to
come up with a software to support Indian customers (
http://www.redhat.in/news/article/41.html ) .But no deb packages. There are
application like Gnu Cash , Nola Pro , Grisbi . But nothing close to Tally
, because Tally is *specific to Indian Economy*.
The reason i am posting this query is cause i have a friend of mine who has
a Engineering Business , Pro Linux, and want to convert all his desktops
to the Linux OS from a windows. But the only thing stopping him is the the
issue with Tally. and few other softwares .
Any suggestion That I can pass on to him !!
Thanks
