To setup ftp server

HI to all, Mr.Bhargav had a problem on ftp server setup.Problem is he is not able to enable ftp service in redhat7.2. In this case what you have to do is: 1. login as a root account. 2. execute setup #setup 3. Select system services options 4. In that list, enable wu-ftpd and also disable iptables,ipchains(also disable unmanted services like httpd,lpd because it will slowdown the system) 5. Execute following scripts: #/etc/rc.d/init.d/xinetd restart #/etc/rc.d/init.d/iptables stop #/etc/rc.d/init.d/ipchains stop 6. Create your users as usual. Sorry for starting a new thread in this topic. Actually, I don't know how far people have gone in this thread. Well, I heard someone calling upon Cygwin, hence I'm here. This mail is intended for people who want Linux on Win2k only for development kinda thing, otherwise you can use VMWare to install the complete Linux inside Win2k. Mind you, even though VMWare create a swap file for Linux filesystem, it is damn fast as compared to Linux on FAT32. Ok, regarding the development kinda thing : Currently there are at least 3 active projects which are targeted at porting GNU utils on Windows. 1. Cygwin : A project by RedHat Inc. - The only drawbacks are huge size & needs to be installed online(I guess) Otherwise a good piece of software. Allows creation of DLLs as well. www.sources.redhat.com/cygwin 2. MingW : This project is currently unmaintained as far as GNU compliance goes - started out with GNU compliance. This is now part of a project called BloodShed Compilers - again free. www.mingw.org, google for Bloodshed And my favourite : 3. DJGPP : This is a full-fledged suite of GNU Utils including different shells, compilers, E-Macs, binutis, filutils etc. This project is maintained by a guy named DJ Delorie & others. Very good in all respects & actively maintained. Though the size of the project is large about 200 MB - including all additional libraries like ALLEGRO - A Low - LEvel Game ROutine for game development etc, it is distributed as small parts in form of zips. This is an Open Source project, so can get the source code if anyone wants. I use it on Win2k at home - without any problems. It uses COFF with MS-DOS stub (header) added. The flaw, which affects versions 2.4.14 through 2.4.18-pre9 of the Linux kernel, is in a component of the Netfilter firewall software. The component is involved when two computer users chat directly with each other using the Internet Relay Chat (IRC) system. Information sent across the Internet is broken up into tiny "packets," each with "from" and "to" addresses, indicating who's sent the information and where it's intended to go. So-called firewall software transmits or screens out these packets based on the address of the sender. Netfilter, among the new aspects of the 2.4 version of the Linux kernel, is software that runs within the kernel to filter out unwanted packets. But its IRC helper component configures firewall settings too broadly, potentially allowing communication from IP (Internet Protocol) addresses that should be blocked. Programmers working on the Netfilter firewall software project reported the problem Monday. Versions 7.1 and 7.2 of leading Linux seller Red Hat's product are vulnerable. The Durham, N.C.-based company issued a patch Thursday that corrects the problem. The flawed software isn't installed by default on the Red Hat versions, the company said, but some users may have added it. Security is a nagging concern for the computer industry, which must juggle new features with the risk that they open up new problems.
