I dont need to pander up to someone and win brownie points It is only in this forum that I critiise severly closed source and M$ since the members are quite open minded. further, responses both for and against provide a framework for presenting free v/s closed software in the correct perespective. As for my closed mind the above 19 yrs of battle and several thaousand reinstallaions and crash recoveries of windows has taken it's toll I suppose (not to mention the fact that development time and costs has been cut, performance of systems increased manifold, and great innovation is now possible using free software). [OT] Interesting Conversation

Hi! I had a conversation with my B.E. comp friend about Linux. Basically he is doing a project in VC++ fr:So you are doing project in Linux right ? me:yeah. C programming in Linux fr:Oh,does Linux have VB,VC ? me:No fr:hmm... so will my VC programs run on Linux? me:No fr:Then what's the use of Linux? I was stupified. (OK Windows programs can b emulated but still they cannot 'run' right ?) This is from a guy who had Operating Systems,System Programming,Microprocessor in his syllabus I guess the whole syllabus is 'DOS' oriented. ppl still cannot digest the fact that there are many other compilers other than the 'standard' Turbo C++ 3.0 Also I've observed that this is the general awareness/attitude of Comp. ppl abt Linux. I can only imagine what it must be like for Arts/Commerce/ ppl to understand what is Linux -- Nikhil

If you have compiled and installed the see to it if they are available in the include and library paths while compling mp3 blaster. Inclide thos paths in /etc/ld.so.conf (its a simple text file) and run ldconfig. This generally does the trick. A simpler way would be to use binary packages. Regards, Amol.

As Indians with limited resources, GNU and free (as in freedom, not give aways)is the way to go. Besides the point, one can't really take the digestive system out of an animal and say that it suffers from excess wind. X _is_ slow, running it standalone wasn't at all envisaged when X was developed. However if one wants a GUI on a standalone there's no choice, but to use it. People who use it on a N/W think otherwise. regards, Amol.

inet problem

Hi! I am having redhat 6.2 (2.2.19) I have network adapter of 1) intel epro100 2) intel pro 1000 I have to reload the inet service 3 to 4 times a day I have tried changing the lan card.
