Mystery between: eth0 Link not ready - Reliance Netconnect BB+ 10.04 (Ubuntu)

All, I was able to use Reliance Netconnect BB+ on Ubuntu 10.04 without doing much and Ubuntu detecting the device and just asking for the number to be dialled and credentials. However, once I had to just test a proxy server on ubuntu so I plugged in a LAN Card and then tried to connect to BB+ the usual way I do. However, since then (and at that time) I have not been able to connect to BB+ at all and Ubuntu just doesn't connect to the internet. I recently noted that in the logs (dmesg) it shows up eth0: link not ready for some odd reason - I do not have the LAN cable connected any longer now. Is this a recent known bug (I couldn't find any bugs though) or is there something that I'm not doing correctly? -- Roshan Baladhanvi

Keys misbehaving in GUI

Strange behaviour observed. On latest Ubuntu 10.10 updated, when I login as a particular user in GUI, most of keys towards right half of keyboard start misbehaving. Many keys don't produce any action, some make cursor to move. I checked keyboard layout, it is not changed. If I login in Console mode, it is OK. For other users, it is OK. Can it be virus? How I can find problem, or how I can correct it / restore to original one. -- H.S.Rai

Firefox/Chrome(on Linux) compatible DVRs?

Hi! I am planning to buy a 4 channel DVR for video surveillance. The models I have seen supports only IE (using ActiveX) for real time monitoring and movement of cameras. Some claimed to work with Firefox but on actual testing it didn't work at all. Has anyone implemented any non-PC based DVRs which can be accessed from Linux based systems using either Firefox or Chrome? I am against using a dedicated PC for it due to its larger form factor and high power consumption. This device is supposed to be running 24x7 in a closed loft. Thanks in advance. Raghu

Eucalyptus private cloud on Centos 5.5

Hi, Does anyone have experience in deploying Eucalyptus private cloud using Centos 5.5? Would appreciate it if you let me know. I don't have a GPS phone, but I've had long chats with friends who do about GPS accuracy, and they seem to confirm this --- 10-20 metres is typical outdoor accuracy. They add a couple of ifs. First, you may need to wait fairly long, maybe 10-15 mins, to get this accurate a fix specially after a long off-line gap, because a lot of cached data inside the phone needs to be validated with the satellites. Second, they say that this accuracy is possible only if satellite reception is acceptable, which it is not in some situations, typically indoors. In the absence of these two factors, you'll get position data from cellphone towers (AGPS) which will be +/- a few hundred metres. This is typically what a newbie "GPS user" sees with his phone. When the first Motorola Milestone came to our office, I remember this is what we all used to see, till we did all this knowledge gathering and re-tried. Shuvam

NetworkManager Permission Issue on Fedora 14

Hello Gang, I have upgraded my Netbook from Fedora 10 to Fedora 14 so I can use MTNL's Teracom 3G USB Data card. The data card is detected and usable on Ubuntu 10.04 Live CD and Installed version using Network Manager. In Fedora 14, the card is detected and setup without any problem. But I can not use/activate it as normal user as Network Manager does not allow me to give permission to use by normal user. Please help me in figuring out how to set permission in Network Manager on Fedora 14. Google did not provide any useful info/pointers. TIA for your help and hints. Regarding PAT rules

Hi, I am in trouble while writing PAT rule in my iptables configuration. Lan ips - 192.168.2.0/24 Public ip - y.y.y.y I need to implement PAT for ssh ---> At ip - y.y.y.y port - 1 should redirect to 192.168.2.1:22 At ip - y.y.y.y port - 2 should redirect to 192.168.2.2:22 At ip - y.y.y.y port - 3 should redirect to 192.168.2.3:22 please let me know how to resolve it..!
