hi all ! have a look on this : " I was recently looking at the source of a wxPython-based GUI application, about 45.5KLOC in size, not counting the libraries used (e.g. Twisted). The code was written by Java developers who are relatively new to Python, and it suffers from some performance issues (like a 30-second startup time). In examining the code, I found that they had done lots of things that make sense in Java, but which suck terribly in Python. Not because "Python is slower than Java", but because there are easier ways to accomplish the same goals in Python, that wouldn't even be possible in Java." Hello, Here are some links worth reading. First is a user who tried to install Ubuntu on his eeepc after knocking off Xandros. He mentions popping in a cd in the drive. He may have forgotten to mention that it was an external drive. This is an interesting statement reproduced. "Geek Squad, a tech support service partnered with the Carphone Warehouse, is more used to dealing with problems with broadband and e-mail but later that night, Agent Jamie Pedder walks me through it over the phone. Download a couple of bits of code from one of the Linux help sites on to a memory stick. Whack the memory stick into the offending laptop. Bang a couple of lines of code into the terminal window to tell the machine to install what we've downloaded. Bingo, we're cooking on gas. Ubuntu's running my wireless network and I'm back on-line. Md5sum Input/Output Errors Crash System

Hello, I have downloaded the first 10 Debian Etch CDs and out of 10 ISOs, 2 or 3 had an md5sum problem. While the good md5 returns a proper checksum value, the bad ones return an Input/Output error. The problem is that when this error occurs, the link between the system and HDD is lost and no further commands are accepted as they need to be picked up from the HDD. The system blanks out and I have to force shutdown and reboot it. Yesterday I kept the Lenny live CD for download and its md5sum gave the same problem today morning. I had mentioned this problem earlier too and the HDD was suspected. However for the good ISO checksums there is no problem whatsoever. The goal is to have Indian language computing on free operating systems become at least as easy as it is with English. Besides, we also work on various open-source technologies including mobile computing (especially, the use of Indian languages on mobiles), GPS, GIS, electronics, embedded devices, and robotics. The successful candidate is also strongly encouraged to have open-source interests of their own, and they can be allocated time to work on these. A brief description of the responsibilities of the position include: o Coordinating with major Linux distributions for ensuring up-to-date Indian language packages for fonts, input methods, etc. o Coordination with major applications like OpenOffice, Mozilla, and Scribus for incorporation of Indian language packs, and the building of releases. o Facilitating development work in Indian language computing by working with various external developers such as Scribus, aspell, desktop publishing, and semantic analysis folk, etc. o Driving documentation by making an outline of the documents needed for installing and using Indian languages on FLOSS operating systems and applications. o Keeping abreast of new technology, and facilitating the development of cutting-edge technologies for Indian languages, such as speech-to-text, optical character recognition, etc. o FLOSS Evangelism, and support for people seeking to deploy FLOSS Indian language solutions. Besides this, the person will also be expected to take up part of the managerial tasks associated with the current FLOSSINCLUDE projects, and other ongoing FLOSS projects at Sarai. Freedom Toaster launched in India!!!

Hey, September first was that amazing day, when the first freedom toaster was launched in India. The GNU/Linux users group, trivandrum is organizing the fest. it was inaugurated on 1st sept, at the technopark by the Kerala State IT Mission Director, Mr. Kelkar. The Freedom Toaster was also unveiled during the same time. If any of your friends are working at the Technopark, Trivandrum, kindly encourage them to visit the fest and take advantage of it.
