Need Help

Hi All, I am using an IBall Marshall Dual Core Laptop, it does not alllow the install of Linux as the installer, irrespective of the linux flavor hangs up, can anyone suggest a way to install Linux in the system. Most linux installers hang up without any error message I have tried the noapic and nolapic options in boot parameters with Ubuntu The BIOS is a Phoenix BIOS, but SIW reports it as COMPAL BIOS at present, it has windows installed in it and working fine Regards Surya Pratap

Setting up the network

Hi, I am trying to setup network to access the guest running on VirtualBox from internet. My current setup is as follows :- eth1 - Internet eth0 - LAN I set up network to work properly on VirtualBox following the how-to on gentoo-wiki[1] and was able to access the guest from outside. But, since eth0 is bridged to br0, the other PC on the LAN isn't able to access the internet. I don't have any more network cards. What would be the best way to tackle this? Should I create eth1:0? Open Street Mapping Questions

Hey, Since many people on this list have attended workshops or even done some mapping/tracing work, I thought I would ask some questions here - 1) Suppose you are walking on a particular street - 2 way street even - you encounter a few shops - say a big Sweet and Snacks / Hotel / School / anything, on the same street. Now how do you put those on the maps while GPS tracking and then tracing the map on the computer? I mean, the to reach the shop, you have to walk good 5 meters or such - at times - depending on width of foot path or such. Now those paths are not roads really, and they can vary from place to place. How to tackle such offsets ? 2) Suppose you have tracked certain part of your town or your route from your home to airport near your city. Then you fly to another city and then restart the GPS device. At that point the device generally has to re-initiate itself to capture/detect the satellites ( which it has to do anyway incase you turn off and then switch on a gps device - atleast in some devices that I have seen ). Anyway after it has done that, it calculates the Longitude and Latitude and hence the current position. What happens in this case is, the GPS device draws a straight line from City A to City B. Is there a way to avoid that / tackle that ? Any pointers ? Thanks in advance. Cheers! Xaralx Graphics Software

Hello, I came across a graphics software thats open source. It is called open source Xara Extreme. It can be downloaded as a tar.bz2 file that is a self running program. Simply go to the bin folder and double click on the xaralx file. You will need to install imagemagick first and its available in your distro's respective repository. What is the general opinion about this software xara? I checked out its import function in the file menu and it can import even from photoshop file formats. http://www.xaralx.org/ -- Regards, Rony.
