Hello All, There is an article in BBC http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/programmes/click_online/6972079.stm about how search engines record details of users' search patterns. I am curious to know, how do search engines get user details when a person uses the search facility. Normally only the IP address of the computer is available and that too changes dynamically. "The five-month ballot process ended on 2 September and was open to the IEC and ISO national member bodies from 104 countries, including 41 that are participating members of the joint ISO/IEC technical committee, JTC 1, Information technology. Approval requires at least 2/3 (i.e. 66.66 %) of the votes cast by national bodies participating in ISO/IEC JTC 1 to be positive; and no more than 1/4 (i.e. 25 %) of the total number of national body votes cast negative. telnet 143 and 110 error

Hi All I am facing a problem when i telnet to port 110 and 143 i am able to do so but when i put in my user name and password it gives me Temporary problem.( see log bellow ) [root@mail ~]# telnet localhost 143 Trying 127.0.0.1... Hello, I recently installed Debian Etch as a dual boot on my laptop . I am having an issue with logging off . Also ctrl+alt+f1 does not bring me to the shell . All I get is a black screen in both the cases and i have to manually shutdown my laptop and reboot. I am however able to shutdown and restart from within gnome.I am new to linux so cant figure out whats wrong. I tried to find out what onboard video card im using from within windows by right clicking on the desktop then going to : display properties->settings->advanced->adapter and there it says : VIA Chrome9 HC IGP. I have already tried the following troubleshooting steps but it didnt work : Already tried steps : --------------------- 1) Tried ctrl+alt+f5 , ctrl+alt+f7 , ctrl+alt+backspace but get the same black screen and have to manually shutdown and reboot. 2) Added vga=771 at the end of the kernel line in /boot/grub/menu.lst . Also tried vga=773,vga=791 3) Ran the command su cat /etc/X11/xorg.conf | grep "Driver" to get information on driver and the output of the above command is : Driver "kbd" Driver "mouse" Driver "vesa" What could be going wrong ? Best Desktop Linux distro.

Hi, Myself Raza.Z.Sayed , from Mumbai. I have recently joined iglug-bom . Well, im kinda new to linux , but ive been using linux for quite some time now as a casual user . Im a student and I find linux more attractive as compared to proprietary OS, not only because it has matured enough to give proprietary software some decent competition but what appeals to me most as a student is that linux being free and open source offers a lot of room for learning and experimentation , which is seriously lacking in a proprietary os like windows. So,ive decided to switch over completely to free and open source software now and plan to use Linux as the primary OS I use on my machine. My machine has 512 MB of RAM and 1.46 GHz processor. So,i need your suggestion as to which distro would be the best desktop os for me,in terms of atleast the following factors. 1. Support for wireless connectivity, as i need to be able to use WiFi. 2. Support for Bluetooth . 3. Support for ADSL connections , i use MTNL Triband on my machine 4. Good choice of software and wide support for the same available. One of my friends would be giving me a copy of Debian Etch . Would that be good enough ?. Thanks :) --------------------------------- Building a website is a piece of cake. Yahoo!
