ncftp configuration

Hello everybody, Sorry to bother you with this trivial problem, but as it goes, I am experiencing problem using ncftp on my RedHat Fedora core 1 system. When I checked, it had ncftp preinstalled. And when i type "ncftp 192.168.10.1" at the command prompt(where 192.168.10.1 is the IP of the host where i wanted to log in), it connects successfully and displays the ftp prompt. Now the problem is : 1) When i type ls it shows /pub and then i cannot create a directory there or cannot upload, download files. A permission denied error is shown. 2)When i try logging into ftp from the shell prompt by typing "ncftp 192.168.10.1 -u root -p XXXX", where root and XXXX are the username and 3) Actually, I need am very new to the concept of ncftp, can u suggest any resources other than ncftp documentation, where i can learn how to configure the ftp service. My project is on email archival, and the all the work in the project is complete except the ncftp portion. what i need is to build a number of user accounts, with certain usernames and passwords and then i need to write shell scripts to automate the uploading and downloading of files. If the hardware vendor does _not_ provide drivers or specs to write the drivers then no matter what Linux distro you use, you will not be able to connect to the 502t on the USB port. Ask the vendor for drivers; suggest you write about your dilemma to: K. R. Naik MD/CEO, DLink India Ltd. Sir, I do not have a LAN Card installed in my computer. I use Redhat Linux 9.0 and kudzu is able to detect this hardware but there are no appropriate dirvers. I am planning to Upgrade to Fedora Core 4 soon and I dont know whether even, that would support. Automated Encryption

hello everybody, I am experiencing a proble related to encryption. can u suggest some encryption method which if used with shell scripts, needs no user input and can be fully automated, eg. methods where user doesnt hav to type in the encrption keys. the key can be kept in a file and can be picked up from there. Currently, I use bcrypt, which prompts user to enter the encryption key and thus goes out of shell scripts control. Why logging as root in the GUI is avoidable

The number of bad things that can happen, dramatically increases when logged in as root. Learn to run as much as possible as a regular user, and su to root only when needed. This may sound like a lot of extra work (and probably is at first), but once the "right"way of doing things is learned, it soon becomes second nature. A brief anecdote from a friend: he had a client who's new system stopped "working". Curiously, he found the entire /dev directory was missing, which he re-installed and all was well again. He was back a few days later and found the system logged in as root to X, and someone had clicked on /dev in the file manager, and dragged it onto the desktop. Smooth move! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ This is pretty good advice for a newbie. Hi ppl, Was cool meeting some of you guys on Sunday n my earlier meeting with Monsieur Jon Masters (when he was down here),Erle and Derwyn...consequently me is on the LUG :) With regards the project I mentioned in my meet @ Barista,Bandra which aims at easing some of the pains associated with device drivers, I finally remembered where I heard of it. Terminal service sound problem

Hi, I use krdc from FC4 to connect to Windows machines. One problem I find is that sound doesnt work even if I select play at remote computer or play at local computer. I checked if sound in terminal service works if I connect from XP. It works fine. Once it worked but sound quality was very poor. Now I do not remember what I did to make it work. Is there anything to be configured in the sound server? Any pointers or suggestions would be very helpful. Thanks in advance. Regards, Raj

It's there so why not use it ? Small problem in SUSE 10

This is my first submission to this list. Please forgive for any mistakes. I have been using linux for the past 2 years.(First installed distro FC2) I have recently installed SUSE 10 along with Fedora 4(which was previously present).I chose not to install GRUB during SUSE install and am using the GRUB of Fedora to boot Win xp ,fedora as well as SUSE.All works fine in SUSE except that the display quality is very bad. I get a resolution of 1024x768 after adding "vga=0x317" as kernel parameter while booting SUSE .But when i scroll up or down in webpages or konqueror filebrowser th scrolling is not smooth. Can anyone help me to find out what is wrong.There in no such problem in Fedora 4 which i am using since 4 months....My graphics card is S3ProSavage DDR onboard. Everything else works fine in SUSE .Also 1 more thing....I cant start SAX2 from anywhere ,neither command prompt in runlevel 3 or from yast in runlevel 5.plzz help LINUX GURUS!!!! Apart from this, I think SUSE 10 is the ideal distro to get any newbie hooked onto linux as it has a gui for almost all tasks using YAST(I myself was hooked on to linux since i first used the SUSE 9.1 Live CD.) FC4 kernel panic - not syncing : Attempted to kill init!

Hi I downloaded the FC4-i386-disc1_1.iso Burned it as ios image on cd The media check is pass It works fine on my laptop. But on my desktop it gives the following error kernel panic - not syncing : Attempted to kill init! My pc congf is P4 3ghz 2gb ram 865 Mother board HD1: SM-ST3250823AS 250 gb on which win xp is installed. HD2: SM-ST3160021A 150GB whic is blank, shows as healthy active in the windows manager. Can anyone help me with same. Also if any one has Linuc cds or DVds can you please bring it to the meeting once the address of the meeting is finalised. [OT] Hospital Software

Hello All, Yesterday I was at a hospital to oversee a patient's discharge. It took a whole day for them to simply discharge the patient. What was surprising was that even though the hospital had computers in practically all departments, they didn't seem to maintain records progressively. They made small hand written bills for various medical activities and put them in a patient's file. This file would then be passed on from one dept. to another. Finally during discharge, the billing dept. would enter all these records one by one into their computer. This was a long process and to add to the delay was a pile of many such files to be entered into the computer at a time. Ultimately inspite of having lots of computers with them in the entire hospital, they were underutilizing this usefull resource. There are many software developers on this list who are also into database management. This is just a suggestion. Whenever they create softwares for hospitals, they could create a system wherein every department creates its bills directly into the computer and prints it out on a tiny printer just like the one used in restaurants and STD/ISD booths. So when a patient's portfolio is created on admission it is stored on a central server. Every department's new bill is added to this record at the time of creation itself. So during discharge the billing department does not enter any bills into their computer, instead they simply click a button to get a final print out as per their format. In order to overcome local networking glitches that may temporarily prevent access to the main server, a sub server database can be kept running in every machine that is used to enter data. This server will store a backup of all its own records and also act as a buffer holder when network is down. When the network is up again, it will automatically locate the main server and update the main database. This will be a background process that will run without user intervention, thus allowing records to be created inspite of network loss. hi, I am facing a problem related to ld (linker directive) on RH Linux AS 3. Functionality: We are using OHS (Oracle HTTP Server), which loads our shared library module, consider A.so. This A.so has dependancy on some LDAP SDK .so modules. These are mozilla LDAP SDK libraries we use to do LDAP related xsactions. Also OHS has its own LDAP SDK libraries and it loads these libraries and symbols globally. problem: When we do some LDAP related transaction through Web-browser, our modules calls mozilla LDAP SDK for DS connectivity. This is as expected. But mozilla LDAP SDK is failing to invoke correct routine internally. It calls OHS LDAP routines as it finds them defined globally. So we want to resolve mozilla LDAP calls internally w/o going into OHS. We are doing this for both Linux and Solaris. For Solaris we have resolved the problem by linking mozilla LDAP SDK libraries with -B direct linker option. This way all LDAP calls are resolving internallywithin mozilla libraries. But problem still exist with Linux as I couldnt find -B direct linker option for ld. If I use static libraries to generate A.so, ofcourse it resolves the issue. But I want to use mozilla LDAP shared libraries. Is there any compatible option on Linux like -B direct? -mandar

Problem with Cyberoam in Linux

Hi all, My ISP is providing internet via a server running Cyberoam. They have also provided client for both Linux and Windows. The client for Windows is working perfectly... i.e. Its able to successfully connect to the server, login and Im able to access internet. In case of Linux client, Iam able to successfully connect and login. But after that Iam not able to visit any of the webpages. I have checked the gateway, DNS settings and they are correct. WANTED: 286 mobo, ECL circuits

Hi all, I need a working 286 pc at motherboard. If anyone has one please give me a buzz on 9820624902. I have a LeCroy 140 DSO (circa 1996) which conked out some yrs ago. I decided to resurrect the machine. The machine has an OPTI 286 mobo inside, with several isa cards (Cirrus vga, ide, GPIB, and ROM/static ram card). The battery has leaked and corroded the pcb. The machine also has ECL circuits which use -5V supply. This board has conked out too. Replacing the psu (with one which supplies sufficient power but is not the same) does not seem to work as the psu shuts down. Any ideas while i google. rgds jtd

Hello All, I am trying to install kernel 2.4 on my machine running Fedora core 3(FC3). FC3 has 2.6 kernel. I started with 2.4.20 then 2.4.26 but ended up with compilation error. Finally i started with 2.4.31. This did not give me any compilation and continued till final installation. But on booting with 2.4 kernel, an error message is flashed showing Unable to load ext3.o module If anybody has tried this before or knows the answer, Do reply Thanks everybody Gaurav.

Help me with pppoe problem with ubuntu 5.10

I had ubuntu 5.04 which was configured to login to inet via pppoe at boot, I used deb's pppoeconf to conf it. it worked without problems, Now I have ubuntu 5.10 (clean install, not upgrade) i have to pppoeconf everytime i want to login to inet, even though pppoeconf asks me to start pppd at boot and I say yes.... I CAN connect to internet when i run pppoeconf everytime. so there is no problem with my ISP not serving linux clients. I tried to use rp-pppoe package which come with various utils, It connects and creates new ppp0,1,2,3,....... connections but i cannot surf the web or connect to internet, there is no pppd in /etc/init.d/ , i cant see pppd in rcconf, but i can see ppp what ever the problem is, I want to connect to inet at boot via pppoe, i have all the Access-Concentrator and Service-Name correctly configured. Hi, I have hosted one website in /domain/www.xyz.com/web i have created three 3 ftp users i.e., admin user1 user2 Home directory of admin is /domain/www.xyz.com/web owner is admin and group is site1 Home directory of user1 is /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user1 owner is user1 and group is site1 Home directory of user2 is /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user2 owner is user2 and group is site1 Now the issue is admin should have all the rights on the /domain/www.xyz.com/web directory how can i edit or delete files from /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user1 and /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user1 using admin FTP login I cant use group write permission as suexec in apache will not work root rights cant be given due to security reason Kindly provide me solution for this. Cron problem

Hi Gopi, There should be no problem with a simple package like cron on either of the distros. Can u post or send me the logs of your exercise, u could script -a $HOME/crontrbl.txt or enable logging in putty. run the date command during the excersise after each step you perform. cron in RHEL 4

Hi all, I am trying to run a job through cron in RHEL 4. The job runs fine for the first time but after the 1st run when the time is changed in crontab, the job fails to run . For example , if i run a pwd >> /home/gopi/output.txt through crontab at 10 am and 10 mins ( this being the 1st run ), the command runs successfully for the first time and the file output.txt contains the output of the pwd command, but after the 1st run when I change the time 10 am and 15 mins then the command fails to run thru cron . If I test the same condition in RHEL 3, its working fine. There is a single line in crontab 10 10 * * * pwd >> /home/gopi/output.txt (during the 1st run) 15 10 * * * pwd >> /home/gopi/output.txt (during the 2nd run) Can anyone help me out with this Please.... ? hi.. my mouse is an iBall Black-Cat.. it has a left click, right click, back, forward, vertical and horizontal scroll.. i'm using FC2.. i installed the evdev module and got my horiziontal and vertical scroll to work but the back and forward buttons are not working.. in xev the back button is mapped to button 9 and the forward button to button 10.. i created the .xbindkbdsrc file in my home folder to map the buttons but it is still not working.. anyone knows how to get the buttons working?? i need the back button mapped to Alt+L and the forward button to Alt+R.. -- javed...

I am planning to use 2 WAP11 boxes (linksys wireless access points) that have bridging capabilities, allowing it to bounce signals and act as a repeater. Has anyone tried this successfully and what were the limitations in terms of range? There are 2 applications: 1) Internet, so even 11 MBPS speed will be fine. 2) Using an application such as Client-Server Tally. Clearly 11 MBPS can be the bottle neck here. But the g versions at 54 will have lesser range. Is that true? 3) Now as we move from Router-AP-Switch devices towards the Access Points with bridging capabilities, how is it going to compromise the security when not having a firewall in place as the wireless routers provided this? 4) Which of these setups are possible? Internet____WAP1--->WAP2_____Router----->USB-Adapter____PC. ____ denotes wired link. ---- denotes wireless. Router in question is entry level netgear or linksys without bridging. 5) Has anyone tried signal boosters and how good are they? While the signal booster costs a LOT (if available) it saves the hassles of WAP1-Wap2-Router setup or even WAP1-WAP2-USB Adapter. 6) Can anyone point to a good signal booster that will go over 2 concrete walls and total distance 50 feet and work with netgear/linksys entry level router+Access points? Hello, Printing subsystem always baffles me. Printing in windows is very intuitive and easy. If I fire print job and if print cord is not connected to printer or printer is offline print spooler flashes warning within few seconds. But in Linux once print job is fired it is lost in black hole. Even if printer is offline or printer is not connected print spooler doesn't inform about it. I have tired lpd, lprng and CUPS all are more or less same. I wonder printing is so flaky in Linux? Thanks Regards, Komal

hi junta i tried to install a network printer HP deskjet 3940 connected to a windows machine and shared.but i could not find driver for the printer in fc4. I tried HP site also but it provides drive for MAC/WINDOWS only not for linux. THen i tried to install HPLIP as mentioned below. But in vein. still i am unable to get adrive for it. Can anyone throw light on it. when i tried to detect printer using command hp-makeuri 10.1.1.111 <http://10.1.1.111> it reported [ERROR]: Failed (error code=12). hi all ! i would want to read some file from my windows directory . i have created a dir called win in the mnt directory. when i give the following command. # mount /dev/hda1 /mnt/win i get the following error mount: fs type ntfs not supported by kernel can some one please tell what is this error and how can i read the files please help thanks in advace gk mumbai

Hi All, I have dual boot with redhat 8.1 and win2k3 , file system in respective O.S is ext3 and ntfs i am unable to mount ntfs partition in redhat.. Since kernel doent support that... Dear all, Wanted Help installing Ubuntu(5.10) on Apple iBook G4 14". The Setup is goes well.But the touchpad doesnt work.Tried using Stelian Pop`s driver (http://www.popies.net/atp/) but it doesnt compile.gives me loads of errors.Also the source code has no mention of 14" spec. Please help (Accessing tape device on remote machine.)

I have a tape device(/dev/st0) attached on a debian system. I want to access this tape from another linux machine. I can do mt related command using ssh from other machine. But I am not able to use rdump and rrestore to this tape drive from other machine. When I give command rrestore -if abcd.res.in:/dev/st0 It gives abcd.res.in: connection refused login to abcd.res.in as root is failed. I have entered proper entries in ~root/.rhosts and /etc/equiv. Can anybody help on this. Can anybody suggest expert opinion. Regards, Santosh K

In most urban areas of UK, you can get unlimited 512Kbps/1MBps broadband for 10 pounds a month. For starter plans, you may have a connection fee of 20-30 pounds, but you do often get a basic ADSL modem for free. You do have to sign a contract for 12 months though. (minimum wage in UK ~5 pounds per hr) p.s. and we never had a freeserve like ISP in India :-( !!

Unattended execution of Bash script in Linux from Windows

Hi, I have two pcs. One FC4 and one Windows XP. I have to run a script test.shevery time I complete a particular task. To do that I login to Linux thru ssh from XP machine and run the script manually. I want to automate all of this i.e., from loging in to FC4 till the execution of the Bash script. I know this is because of the proxy/NAT that Sify has set up in my area. I though am not aware of the details of this. slow booting of RHEL WS 4.0

Hi all, I have loaded the winXp SP2 and RHEL WS 4.0 dual booting using grub, problem is booting to linux takes 15-20 minutes. Booting to WinXP and coming out of linux is fast. motherboard is 915 GAV. I would like to know whether this is normal for RHEL WS 4.0 booting or there is some problem. If so kindly help me out. Cheers, Amit Das.

Hello All, This is a note on setting up the Epson LX300 dot matrix printer in FC4. On the top task bar panel, go to Desktop > System Settings > Printing. Here add your printer and for the driver, select 'Generic'. In its sub list, select 'ESC/P Dot Matrix Printer'. On the rightside, there is a small drop down list of 'Available Drivers'. Select 'eps9high'. In the next tab called 'Driver Options' set your page size and for resolution, select '240x216'. Configuring TriBand under Ubuntu

I have the DSL399 conn via ethernet. I am running Ubuntu 5.04. I have trouble configuring the connection. The problem is that once upon a time i had used a modem and Ubuntu still considers the modem as the default and does not remember the settings for the ethernet conn. I have configured & activated the ethernet conn umpteen times and disabled the modem conn as many times. Pl help. Because of this I have to use XP instead of practising shell scripts (I am 2 mths old int the world of Linux and loving it). R-Connect LSP350R

Hello Everyone, MTNL has suddenly decided to do away with new subscriptions for the "Telephone for Internet" scheme where it charged a flat fee of Rs. 500/- per month for all calls unlimitted to any dialup ISP. The existing customers, that includes me, of this scheme are being told to 'kindly get lost' by increasing the monthly tarrifs from 500/- to 1000/- for Scheme A and 700/- to 1400/- for Scheme B. They are killing the dialup and dialup ISPs and are trying to push Triband down our throats. The triband is not viable for me as my usage is above 250 mb and I would require to shell out atleast 500/- + 250/- = 750/- every month and that too would be a limit of 400 MB. R-Connect gives me 1 GB for Rs 650/-. I want to break MTNL's linux monopoly by using my newly acquired Reliance LSP350R for net usage in Linux. The Mandrake 10.1 does not mount it, although it detects it, inspite of all commands tried from the internet. The FC4 distro can detect it automatically and mounts it on /ttyACM0. The problem is that I am not able to get it talking in KPPP. I tried the initialising string as it exists in the windows. I don't know what should be the 'Flow Control' option Hardware/Software/None and the Line Termination CR/LF/Both. Has anyone successfully used this new model LSP350R for r-connect in linux. If so, please help me by giving me the detailed settings for the same. From 1st November the new tarrifs will be applicable so by then I have to make the necessary crossover. exit status of zombie from proc or something

Hello All, I have this process which runs a child and sleeps for 5 mins and then cleans child(zombie) and prints its exit status. Sometimes child exits early and I can not wait 5 mins for parent to print status (and I can not modify parent code). So is there a way to find the exit status of a child zombie process from proc or ps or any other way? Proc has file called status but I couldnt find if it shows exit code somewhere, can anyone help? Google doesnt help much. Thanks in advance. Amish.

Hi, A script is needed which comments the second line of the file and removes ones condition is fulfilled.. For example as mentioned down, I'm checking for the free memory, when it comes to some 50MB it should the comment the '#' at second line of the file /service/run and when the free memory comes to 200 it should remove '#' killing the process or perl. The script below is incomplete.. Please do respond it urgently.. Writing Modprobe.conf

Hi, Whenever I want to use my printer, I have to give the command "modprobe lp" to load the lp module. When the system starts up it load parport & parport_pc modules but not lp. I have now put the command in rc.local file so that the module gets loaded when the system starts. But my question is how does certain modules get automatically loaded when the system starts ? To be more specific, how do I configure /etc/modprobe.conf file to load modules which I want, automatically. For example the lines, alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0 alias sound-slot-0 snd-intel8x0 automatically loads the various sound modules like, (snd_pcm_oss,snd_mixer_oss,snd_intel8x0,snd_ac97_codec,snd_pcm,snd_timer) I want to know how/what do I do with the /etc/modprobe.conf file to make module "lp" to load automatically. I tried adding the following, but that does not work alias char-major-6* lp I tried many other ways but can't figure out how to do it. In other words, I am not able to understand how the kernel automatically loads certain modules. For example, when I start pppd (dial-up ), the following modules get inserted automatically when connected successfully, Module Size Used by ppp_deflate 4992 0 zlib_deflate 20888 1 ppp_deflate zlib_inflate 16896 1 ppp_deflate bsd_comp 5504 0 ppp_async 9088 1 crc_ccitt 1920 1 ppp_async ppp_generic 24980 7 ppp_deflate,bsd_comp,ppp_async slhc 6528 1 ppp_generic There are no entries for pppd in the /etc/modprobe.conf file, still the modules get loaded. Then why does not "lp" modules get loaded why I, for instance, give the command "lpr" . I tried reading the man pages but not of much help. Any pointers to other documentation would also be good. Picked up the Dlink dsl modem from MTNL after infinite number of calls to all an sundry at gandhinagar and vikhroli (w) exchanges. According to an engineer Mr. Nullamuttu they have a problem with supplies and configuration of modem. Connected to an old box powered it up, changed a couple of passwords and it was up and running. Ran the broadband test program which failed to complete. downloaded some stuff speed is around 200kbps. I must move the phone line away from the UPS to add a few kbps. So far so good. rgds jtd

You can actually disable the net connection, by removing the route.. this works on windows and linux in windows... removing the route will close the connection to the modem and you can disable the pppoe connection from the modem when not in use in linux.. ifdown the eth interface and disable the pppoe connection from the modem when not in use Satish

Use a proper vpn like freeswan. Ofcourse on a dialup internet connection u can have better speed with a bicycle. BTW what exactly are u trying to achiev. Alternately u can have a ras with multiple input lines and have your branches dial in. Will give u speeds of 9600 bps. Ok for trivial work. The minimal setup u require is 64kbps isdn lines. rgds jtd

We have a pop server in which aliases is enabled, Using fetchmail we download mails from single real account say "general" and distribute to users locally. I use Postfix as my MTA with default config. My fetchmail config below poll xyz.com proto pop3 localdomains test.linux.com no dns envelope "Delivered-To" user "general" password "xxx" is * here it works fine, but when I mark copy to other users, they get multiple copies of mail. It boots from the CD and then says can't mount cdrom midway What is even comical is that it is the moved drive from my other machine which has Debian installed from that very drive. It must be kept in mind that it is very unfair (to put it mildly) to expect free (as in beer, if not speech) software to come with a warranty. One cannot expect a certificate of quality and terms of warranty for software developed by volunteers. However, when I buy some software (let's not get technical on whether I buy the software or a licence), it is quite reasonable to expect that the software developers give some sort of quality assurance (warranty or otherwise). Hey .. i have used debian on my amd64 laptop.. everything works just fine. didnt see any problems. i just get a problem that is i cant get it to show how much battery is left. other then works great. and if you are lookin to download the amd64 os .. you can download the dvd .. i can burn and give the dvd to you. bye regards Yasar

Hi, MTNL Triband is on and I am on the lookout for downloading a 64 bit OS. I need something that would help me get started without hassling me with inane device issues. (FC4 fails in trying to 'line discipline' my serial mouse and doesn't see my ASUS onboard lan card and Debian went modprobe -v ide-detect failed in installation) Back to 64-bit So I tried Knoppix, which seems to have only Live versions. Next on my favourites list was Suse, here 64 bit is only available as a DVD image. (Sadly no DVD writer... yet :) So in short my query/plea here is pls help me find a 64-bit Linux distro that will know how to work with all my peripherals (keyboard + mouse) and help me see 64 bit computing at work. The smaller the download the better, I won't use this for anything other than a File/Web server and to continue my exp with Ruby. Need a Gnome GUI though.. not that confident at Linux yet. Need a ip based SMB scanner

Hi, I would like info on a windows share scanner (something similiar to Xsharez or Legion on windows). Currently am using Smb4k, also tried a host of utilities like komba smbspider e.t.c but none of them help me list - machines with shares. For Ex. Smb4k is good but lists all machines in the network. I have to click on each to check if they have shares. In legion i just supply a range of ip's, say 10.12.88.2-254 and i get list of shares available on my LAN. Hi Luggers, FOSS.IN/2005 is an annual conference for the Indian FOSS community. Historically, FOSS.IN/2005 evolved out of the Linux-Bangalore conference series that ran between 2001 to 2004. This year, the scope of the conference is widened to cover free and open source in general, rather than limiting the focus to Linux alone. The four day conference intends to bring together the entire cross section of players in the FOSS scenario - users from different target communities, technologists, developers, educationists, businesses as well as policy makers. The theme for this year's conference is "Conversations". On the FOSS horizon, there are several efforts that are represented or addressed across the country. In, parallel, there are various technical discussions and dialogues that have happened at the earlier conferences and meetings and are expected to happen at this conference too. Problem while compiling openldap

Hi list, I heard some of my friends talking that MTNL might be introducing completely unlimited packages (no download/upload limits) for their Triband connections. They may cost between 900 bucks to 1000. Any inside info on this? I am really tired of these cable ISPs (yes, reliance powersurfer too. they have been having tremendous down time in my area). According to my friends they were supposed to introduce this offer(s) 2nd October or so but they pushed it back until the 10th or so. I am highly skeptical of what I was told by my friends. But nevertheless being a human afterall I have hopes from MTNL. Atlast we may have a REAL broadband connection and no hassles of bills since they will be charging a flat fee - no matter what the usage :) Hopefully yours, -- Dinesh A. Joshi

Actually he is complaining against closed source / proprietory software. He said that some people raise the matter of open-source to stop moving to software liability. And his argument is valid. Even open source has to be ready to take responsility for the code they right. I remember being told how debian tests every package thoroughly before putting it in stable version.
