Sendmail configuration problem

Hi there, I've been trying to configure sendmail on my office box. (version 8.12 on Debian 3.0 Woody) I would be using the office smtp router as the smarthost. I need to configure my daemon to authenticate (AUTH = LOGIN) to this smarthost before trying to send mail. I have checked out the procedure using the telnet to port 25. It sure works. Now to configure sendmail for this we have two options: DefaultAuthInfo ( and provide the mapping in the file thats the argument of DefaultAuthInfo) or The 'authinfo' ruleset : This can be done by using FEATURE('authinfo') and providing the mapping. The problem: 1.> I could not find the exact syntax for mapping the auth using DefaultAuthInfo. Yes, I have checked the documentation. It seems that this option is deprecated and would not be supported in the future versions. 2.> So I went on and used FEATURE('authinfo') and provided the mapping in the appropriate file ( The syntax is documented for this) 3.> However what happens is that, even though sendmail correctly tries to use the smarthost for delivering all non - local mail, it does not try to AUTH before the MAIL FROM: ! I checked this using the '-X' option. It returns the non - local mail to me saying it gave a 505 - Authentication required error. Incidentally, I had even tried to configure exim before this for the same situation. Even after making all the required configurations for exim, it would not AUTH itself to the smarthost. I have tried to be lucid enough and hope to have explained the problem clearly. Has anyone out here experienced this before. YANB-(yet another newbie)

I traditionally try out linux for short bursts of time and get sick of it or it stops dual booting and go back to m$ for day to day work. I wanted to install redhat 8.0 from PCQ with win 2000 pro Is PCQ 8.0 different from redhat or only change is with the name and some instyallation options. How can I do that? What partition schemes to use for a 20 Gb? Is grub better than LILO ? How do I ensure in case of a booting problem my data in NTFS or FAT partitions are intact and easily recoverable ? I know regular back up helps but That may be too much at times. Will ge force nivada card and Proview LCD monitor be supported and what's the settings I need to use? ISR called reentrantly

Hello all, one of the servers which is under my administration is a Linux box with dual processor, currently running redhat 7.3 while checking through the logs (/var/log/messages) found out this error Jul 31 19:03:46 XXXXX kernel: ISR called reentrantly!! Jul 31 19:26:55 XXXXX kernel: ISR called reentrantly!! Jul 31 22:27:50 XXXXX kernel: ISR called reentrantly!! The server is running a webserver and a mailinglist server When interacting with the hosting company they said it is BIOS issue , hence we updated the BIOS. then upgraded the kernel. Kernel Upgrade: ============ Latest linux kernel version: (as of 10/08/203) Linux version 2.4.20-19.7smp Old linux kernel version (when the error did occurred) ================== Linux version 2.4.18-24.7.xsmp Now I wanted to knw how the error message shown above and the BOIS was related. Can someone throw some light in the right direction, I do understand that the hardware and the kernel as closely related... Is there more proper explanation of the relationship. Thanks for the reply, Philip. I am newbie at linux.I did go thru the diald Howto... I just wanted to clear one small glitch. When my eth crd is not detected, the system will give me an output "connect : Network is unreachble" on trying to ping.(ping,say VSNL) In cse I want to divert this commnd to an evaluation n it's value to variable in a script,I will need to 'grep' the output of ping. This I have tried already(grep o/p of ping when the network card is down) The o/p of ping is not fed to grep for comparing patterns, rather, the script just puts up the message of 'Network is unreachable' on the monitor,and goes ahead executing the script. I would like to know,is there any specific way I can catch this output and then grep it to evaluate and set the condition right for the script to detect the eth card is not being detected and perform the necessry software resolving. I want to use low cost one... and its driver size should be very less ... Hi, I am running Redhat as a proxy using Squid.The connection through internet is through cable internet. When the cable internet goes down, the modem automatically dials up to the ISP. I want the modem to dial up to the ISP only when the script detects any requests to be sent out to the internet. All, I don't know is, how to go about this. Guys.....ne ideas on how I could implement this? All idea's are welcome. Thanks. problem with shared libraries

i've done a fresh install of RedHat GNU/linux 7.3 (gcc-2.96-110, gcc-c++-2.96-110) on my m/c. i then installed the rar utility. but when i try to run it, it gives the following error: "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" i then did a "locate libstdc++.so", only to find libstdc++.so.2* in the /usr/lib directory. then i installed "wine" from the source code, that i'd obtained from a linuxforu cd. when i tried to run a windoze .exe file using it, it gave me the foll error: "error while loading shared libraries: libntdll.dll.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory" i'd installed gcc-3.2.1 previously (i did a fresh install to get rid of it, since there wasn't a "make uninstall" option available with the source code. i'd then installed blacksun java (j2sdk1.4.1). but when i tried to write a java program, and compile it using "javac", i got the error: "error while loading shared libraries: libstdc++.so.5: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory") is there some specific way in which i need to install gcc again, or do i have to make some changes to my path? if i search for libstdc++.so.5 on the Internet, then do i copy it to /usr/lib, or somewhere else? what changes do i make to system variables? thanks for all the help. -- HACKER: Someone who loves to program and loves being clever about it. --- Pradnyesh Sawant (The Doubtfire) B.E. Hello All, Looking for resources on working on a very small footprint GNU/Linux for project we plan to start in the Affordable Solutions Lab. The idea is to put enough stuff on 32MB Flash RAM, in a thin machine that can run Mozilla and some apps, probably based on it using XUL. We looked at uclinux, but that's not what we are looking for ... The project aims to squeeze a normal network enabled kernel, with display, VMM etc into as small a size as possible. Any pointers? hi, I had posted a query a very long time a go about blocking/stopping Kazaa ver 2 Clients on my internal network from reaching the outside world. Did not get many responses for ver 2 blocking, ver 1 was port 1214 . Asking the question again. Hi, i access internet using lan. i have windows 98 and linux red hat 7.3 installed. While i can surf any website and use yahoo messenger in windows 98, i cannot surf most of the sites in linux and cannot use yahoo messenger. Only some sites like google.com can be accessed by both linux and windows.I can get my mails using email client in both linux and windows properly. On analying TCP Dumps , i figured out that my machine sends TCP Reset often..in linux while in windows it sends it rarely . In general internet connection under window is good while under linux is pathetic!!! What to do so that i get same internet connectivity in linux as i get in windows? highly in need of your idea, suggestions -vishal

Really sorry for the trouble. I should have read the docs in the source first. They explicitly tell me to upgrade my mod-init-utils package. I did that and atleast the modules are being detected. Problem With kernel 2.6.0-test2

I finally convinced myself to try out beta kernels. And I downloaded the 2.6 test version. But the problem now is that modules don't work. Is there anything different that I have to do compared to the normal kernel compilation procedure? My 2.4 kernel still works fine (compiled it from source... so I guess I'm no a complete stranger to it.) Welcome to the world of kernel compilation!! Even I had the same problem, and i posted to the list. You need to install module-init-tools and then recompile the kernel. There could be other packages you must upgrade, check out the README/INSTALL files with the kernel. -- Goldwyn :o) I finally convinced myself to try out beta kernels. Hurd Cd's

Hi, Is there anyone here who has Debian GNU/Hurd cd's? (preferably the K4 release). I have tried the vendors listed at http://www.gnu-india.org/ but that is a dead end. I tried emailing a couple of people off this list but that has not led anywhere. It seems terribly hard to find Hurd cd's in Mumbai. On a dial-up line, downloading is unfortunately not a viable option. If someone does have the cd's and is willing to sell copies to me, please let me know. Thanks, - Apurva
