Hello, I was going through the news report about China having 'hacked' our defence computers and allegedly stolen some information. They are even alleged to have stolen email records of 1 year of the Dalai Lama. My query towards those who may have more information about the same is as follows. 1. Are the compromised machines running doze or Linux? If doze then they are asking for trouble. 2. Since emails are stored as a single database file, how does the attacker steal only one year's record? How does he remotely slice a database inbox file date wise and copy it unless he has had long term access to the user_name and password and keeps copying and saving mails together in a clone offline email client like Thunderbird etc. or one by one using a web interface. Otherwise he has to compromise the actual email server that is hosting the email software and steal the entire inbox file, which is more difficult. -- Regards, Rony. GNU/Linux ! There have been many many a magazines in and out in the market and trust me all of them have sustained only because of the free dvd they come out with it. How is FOSS Guru different? I promise if you buy one copy of the magazine, you will archive it for ever. I am targeting it at all types and calibers of users, developers, system managers and architects. My magazine will have everything for everyone. The mag might be segment specific in each issue, so a ruby developer might want to buy only the FOSS Guru – Ruby Special. I am still thinking more. We feel great pleasure to present you mukt.in 2010. This time with a totally new concept and a new home. Previous editions have successfully inspired a lot of people, specially in Hyderabad about free software and brought them to the community. But due to the active Telangana issue this year, so we are not able to have it in Hyderabad this time. So, we have shifted base to Jaipur, Rajasthan. This time we are not accepting any talks , yes that's true. Mukt.in 2010 is going to be completely workshop based. It's our belief that hands on tutorial have a greater and better impact on the ones attending then only talking, and looking at the fact, most people attending it would be students from and around jaipur, because jaipur is a hub for engineering colleges. error in gconftool command

I have gone through the tutorial of enabling Ctrl_ALT_Backspace - http://ubuntu.igameilive.com/2009/10/enable-ctrl-alt-backspace-in-ubuntu-91… I want to do it using gconftool, I have Opened the gconf-editor and the corresponding key is * /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/options* ideally, the gconftool command for this will be gconftool-2 --type list --list-type string --set /desktop/gnome/peripherals/keyboard/kbd/options '[terminate terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp]' but when I am applying the command , it is setting up the right configuration but Ctrl_ALT_Backspace is not working. This is a true Developer to Developer Conference. *Who can speak at FOSSDevConf ? * Developer and FOSS contributors (Activist, Supporter, Business using FOSS etc) provided they follow Rules and Guidelines of FOSSDevConf. If you are working on any un-finished FOSS project, you are most welcome to show it to get more developers. You can put your stall. There is no fees needed for speakers. *Who can attend this ? * Any one. All you need to pay fees of conference if any. *What is difference between FOSSDevConf and other workshop ?* Basically we trying to show a true spirit of Open World = (Open Content, Open Innovations, Open Standards, Open Source/Free Software). Although those speaker are taking about FOSS but it do not match with true spirit of FOSS and Open world. Secondly, disclaimer, I'm a windows user, and my hand really flies across it when I'm using it. I'm not a hardcore developer, just some programming here / there on PHP or microcontrollers (C). I do use linux, multiple distro's, but spend most of the time on windows / winblows etc. I also got Windows for free from M$ under a certain unrelated engineering subscription. There's two ways of losing an addiction, the cold turkey way, and the slow way. The cold turkey way is awesome, but doesn't work for everyone. Also, I study in a college where the students / crowd isn't very technically inclined (including Engineering students doing Computer sciences). I found that showing them open source on windows worked much better than doing an install fest and throwing them into the linux world. Once they were comfortable with technical aspects like SVN, command line etc, then introducing them to linux worked better. (compared to direct installfest, where most of the students were noting down steps on a notebook, but not getting the steps. So imho, there should always be a basic workshop / lecture on FOSS philosophies and applications in Windows to get the newbies into the scene. After all, most of us are here because of our hatred to Windows / OS X :) Surya Sharma
