WANTED: 286 mobo, ECL circuits

Hi all, I need a working 286 pc at motherboard. If anyone has one please give me a buzz on 9820624902. I have a LeCroy 140 DSO (circa 1996) which conked out some yrs ago. I decided to resurrect the machine. The machine has an OPTI 286 mobo inside, with several isa cards (Cirrus vga, ide, GPIB, and ROM/static ram card). The battery has leaked and corroded the pcb. The machine also has ECL circuits which use -5V supply. This board has conked out too. Replacing the psu (with one which supplies sufficient power but is not the same) does not seem to work as the psu shuts down. Any ideas while i google. rgds jtd

kernel 2.4 on Fedora core 3

Hello All, I am trying to install kernel 2.4 on my machine running Fedora core 3(FC3). FC3 has 2.6 kernel. I started with 2.4.20 then 2.4.26 but ended up with compilation error. Finally i started with 2.4.31. This did not give me any compilation and continued till final installation. But on booting with 2.4 kernel, an error message is flashed showing Unable to load ext3.o module If anybody has tried this before or knows the answer, Do reply Thanks everybody Gaurav.

Help me with pppoe problem with ubuntu 5.10

I had ubuntu 5.04 which was configured to login to inet via pppoe at boot, I used deb's pppoeconf to conf it. it worked without problems, Now I have ubuntu 5.10 (clean install, not upgrade) i have to pppoeconf everytime i want to login to inet, even though pppoeconf asks me to start pppd at boot and I say yes.... I CAN connect to internet when i run pppoeconf everytime. so there is no problem with my ISP not serving linux clients. I tried to use rp-pppoe package which come with various utils, It connects and creates new ppp0,1,2,3,....... connections but i cannot surf the web or connect to internet, there is no pppd in /etc/init.d/ , i cant see pppd in rcconf, but i can see ppp what ever the problem is, I want to connect to inet at boot via pppoe, i have all the Access-Concentrator and Service-Name correctly configured. Mandriva (formerly Mandrake), Suse and Ubuntu are some of the distributions that are popular and also normally considered more user friendly. Hi, I have hosted one website in /domain/www.xyz.com/web i have created three 3 ftp users i.e., admin user1 user2 Home directory of admin is /domain/www.xyz.com/web owner is admin and group is site1 Home directory of user1 is /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user1 owner is user1 and group is site1 Home directory of user2 is /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user2 owner is user2 and group is site1 Now the issue is admin should have all the rights on the /domain/www.xyz.com/web directory how can i edit or delete files from /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user1 and /domain/www.xyz.com/web/user1 using admin FTP login I cant use group write permission as suexec in apache will not work root rights cant be given due to security reason Kindly provide me solution for this. Cron problem

Hi Gopi, There should be no problem with a simple package like cron on either of the distros. Can u post or send me the logs of your exercise, u could script -a $HOME/crontrbl.txt or enable logging in putty. run the date command during the excersise after each step you perform. cron in RHEL 4

Hi all, I am trying to run a job through cron in RHEL 4. The job runs fine for the first time but after the 1st run when the time is changed in crontab, the job fails to run . For example , if i run a pwd >> /home/gopi/output.txt through crontab at 10 am and 10 mins ( this being the 1st run ), the command runs successfully for the first time and the file output.txt contains the output of the pwd command, but after the 1st run when I change the time 10 am and 15 mins then the command fails to run thru cron . If I test the same condition in RHEL 3, its working fine. There is a single line in crontab 10 10 * * * pwd >> /home/gopi/output.txt (during the 1st run) 15 10 * * * pwd >> /home/gopi/output.txt (during the 2nd run) Can anyone help me out with this Please.... ? Hello All, There was news in the times of india today that mtnl is cutting its triband rates to 50% keeping the download cap same. So the 399 plan will now be 199. It will make a formal announcement in a few days so please keep an eye on further developments. This seems to be quite a sensible move however lets wait for the final word from mtnl itself. 5 button mouse

hi.. my mouse is an iBall Black-Cat.. it has a left click, right click, back, forward, vertical and horizontal scroll.. i'm using FC2.. i installed the evdev module and got my horiziontal and vertical scroll to work but the back and forward buttons are not working.. in xev the back button is mapped to button 9 and the forward button to button 10.. i created the .xbindkbdsrc file in my home folder to map the buttons but it is still not working.. anyone knows how to get the buttons working?? i need the back button mapped to Alt+L and the forward button to Alt+R.. -- javed...

Of Wireless Access points and Bridging and speeds

I am planning to use 2 WAP11 boxes (linksys wireless access points) that have bridging capabilities, allowing it to bounce signals and act as a repeater. Has anyone tried this successfully and what were the limitations in terms of range? There are 2 applications: 1) Internet, so even 11 MBPS speed will be fine. 2) Using an application such as Client-Server Tally. Clearly 11 MBPS can be the bottle neck here. But the g versions at 54 will have lesser range. Is that true? 3) Now as we move from Router-AP-Switch devices towards the Access Points with bridging capabilities, how is it going to compromise the security when not having a firewall in place as the wireless routers provided this? 4) Which of these setups are possible? Internet____WAP1--->WAP2_____Router----->USB-Adapter____PC. ____ denotes wired link. ---- denotes wireless. Router in question is entry level netgear or linksys without bridging. 5) Has anyone tried signal boosters and how good are they? While the signal booster costs a LOT (if available) it saves the hassles of WAP1-Wap2-Router setup or even WAP1-WAP2-USB Adapter. 6) Can anyone point to a good signal booster that will go over 2 concrete walls and total distance 50 feet and work with netgear/linksys entry level router+Access points? i am doin a project on linux clusters at TIFR. the project requires us to simulate 8 nodes on a single node and do this for 9 different nodes and thus having a cluster of 72 nodes. these simulated nodes should behave as if they are connected via network(ie-having ip address and all). our guide told us something about either using user mode linux or use kernel threads.. tried googling it but failed to find anything useful enough... can anyone explain user mode linux and how it can be used for the above mentioned purpose? also any sources for reading abt it are most welcome..thx -- Apoorva Kulkarni ozzman[AT]bsd.miki.eu.org The network is the computer... http://www.linux-ha.org http://www.linuxhpc.org http://mm.ilug-bom.org.in/mailman/listinfo/linuxers

Hello, Printing subsystem always baffles me. Printing in windows is very intuitive and easy. If I fire print job and if print cord is not connected to printer or printer is offline print spooler flashes warning within few seconds. But in Linux once print job is fired it is lost in black hole. Even if printer is offline or printer is not connected print spooler doesn't inform about it. I have tired lpd, lprng and CUPS all are more or less same. I wonder printing is so flaky in Linux? Thanks Regards, Komal

hi junta i tried to install a network printer HP deskjet 3940 connected to a windows machine and shared.but i could not find driver for the printer in fc4. I tried HP site also but it provides drive for MAC/WINDOWS only not for linux. THen i tried to install HPLIP as mentioned below. But in vein. still i am unable to get adrive for it. Can anyone throw light on it. when i tried to detect printer using command hp-makeuri 10.1.1.111 <http://10.1.1.111> it reported [ERROR]: Failed (error code=12).
