Problem in access internet through Windows proxy

Hi !!! At my company we have Windows ISA server to access net in local network and access to net is given on the basis of domain user ID and password which is asked as a pop up window in IE. I have install Linux 9 on my system and given the proxy settings in mozilla. I m able to access intranet sites in mozilla but when I try to access internet sites mozilla doesn't given any pop for entering user ID and password. what more settings is required. pls help. Help !!! Its Debian

Dear Friends, I have been trying to figure my way around in debian since last few days and have hit some trouble spots. The modem dials and tries to establish connection in wvdial but the last ok does not come and it disconnects. Kppp would not start in gui as it did not allow user access. Om going through the doc pages I found that it allows only those users who are in the 'dip' group. So I did the usermod -G dip user_name and got kppp running in user gui, but it does not detect my ext. modem on ttys0. The modem query fails. There is no ifcfg* file in debian. How does one setup the eth0? The sound system was not detected but the first time I played a vcd in totem media player, it gave picture and lower volume sound. but next day even that did not happen and I got the message 'cannot play cd even though pluggin is loaded'. During my modem setup I had messed with some files so I formatted and reloaded debian again but now totem has the same error right from start. No net, no movie, back to redhat. Any help apreciated. Debian's web archives have dates not subjects so I can't find my relavent topic unless I open all dates one by one. My first priority is getting the net up. Regards, Rony.

It provided the solution to the resolve problem. On connecting to the net, I had to add :- route add default ppp0 in the command line and this is my first mail from debian. Dear Mr Milind, i am sorry if i hurt your feelings, but no one is blaming anything.. i am stuck somewhere and am askin for help... Guys :-- something strange tht i noticed, when i put only one RAM modules, then it would take the NIC, sata and everything. But when i put in 4 modules, the same thing again, it wont take the tg3.o module, in dmesg i saw tht it gave an error sayin something like unable to find pci resources. Is it linked with the RAM modules and memory allocation or something.. [OT] Tata Indicom Latest Offer: Is today April 1st?

Got a call from Tata Indicom AGAIN today for broadband internet at 512 kbps. I asked 10 times categorically, Does it have any other limits of any kind? time restrictions, data transfer restrictions, in 2 languages that i happen to know. He replied NO, no restrictions. which was good since i want something without restrictions. Is it a shared lines or a dedicated one? Dedicated he said. Will I have to provide modem? No, they will provide. So how much was the damage I ask. Rs. 800/month and 1300 for installation. Hi Everyone, In our endeavour to implement a Windoze less office, I would like to add something. I am planning to implement FLOSS in my office network of 7 computers. No accounting packages, no frills network. Just Peer-to-Peer and connected to the Net thru one of the PCs' using the ICS in Win XP. Predominantly use Word, Excel and Mailing. I just want to shift to FLOSS and know that all the above are possible using LINUX. I want to, in addition to the above, implement a messaging server thru which we can chat within our office. Is there any such application thru which we can chat, using "gaim" or something. Provided we are not connected to the Net always. I want to be able to chat with one-other. I know it is possible in M$ world using I believe Exchange Server or something like that and Netmeeting on the client side. Is this possible in our TUX world and if yes are there any free software available. rgds, rc

" In u-boot, I entered commands to display memory: u-boot=> md 0xff000000 The magic number 0x1985 IS here!No 0x0020 exists at all!! It's quite strange!! Why Linux detects 0x0020 instead? Why U-boot can read the data on flash correctly while linux can't? Why linux always read all data as 0x0020? When I simply replace ST M29W640DB with AMD AM29DL640D (the two chips are pin-to-pin compatible,) JFFS2 works very fine! What's the problem? 64 bit kernel

hi all. we compiled kernel 2.6.9 with arch x86-64, the kernel compiled fine, but the bloddy kernel wont take the "NIC" , i have a asus k8n dl motherboard. when i compile 2.6.11 the kernel wont get the sata_nv controller which it does in the 2.6.9 kern.. Both havin the same .config file. i have a feelin tht thr is come irq sharing issue... during the fly i can c the it says irq sharing disabled. As I mentioned before, I had an issue with the install CD of Ubuntu, which failed to install correctly (in fact, not at all), the Live CD works fine. RH9 installs correctly, except for the problem with Grub (at least, I hope that's the only problem, or like Arnie, I'll be back). Right now, I just can't find the menu.lst file, nor can I locate even the grub.conf file. Maybe neither one has properly installed at all? Around 5 yrs ago, AT&T broadband tried the same stunt on me when I told them that I wanted to share the connection via a router. Note please, the Input remains the same whether it's 1 or 100 PCs. So, they said, if you want extra PCs you will have to pay $4.5 per machine more.. I said why? they said, Because only then we would "support it". I said, but I dont need your support and if you do come by, I Will show u that it's working on 1 PC only. How difficult would that be to remove a ethernet cable from the router to the PC? I dont think they had a prepared response for it. I asked him/her categorically. "Is it Illegal to use it"??? I never got a straight response. It was DSLreports that cleared everything for me. That basically a NIC is a NIC, whether it comes into your computer or a router. Then what u do with it is your problem, yes they can say they will not support it, but I dont think they ever found enough number of bakras to fall for the $4.5/machine/month extra crap. In the end I believe they just gave up. If this matter were to be challenged legally, i dont think the cable companies stand a chance. But then again, they are not exactly your poster boys for law abiders (sic) so they'll just cut your line anyways. I am waiting for Reliance broadband to come out with their works. At the risk of stating the obvious, I'd like to add my 2 dinars. A major roadblock to adoption of linux in small offices is that accounting applications currently dependent on DOS (yes still people use them, and they work great) and Win platforms need to be run. No way those people are going to adopt to any experimental software. So, the mission began. Taking 1 office at a time: (In my verbose narration I will mark the "points to ponder" within %% and %%) ================================ Office 1: Small office using FoxPro based accounting package with upto 5/6 users at a time. Simple people need simple apps and it's a mystery why FoxPro is not the sher khan in this app world. Simplicity also calls for leaving Wine aside for a while and going one level "below" to DosEMU which as the name suggests is a DOS Emulator. (yes, figured it all by myself!) Platform: FC3 Default install DOSEMU: 1.2.2.1 (www.dosemu.org) latest stable version. RPM had dependencies. So installed pretty much all the developer tools. Got it working. %% It asked me for CD 2/3/1/2/3/1/2/3 %% Got dosEMU running by typing xdosemu which starts DOS in its own window. (I daresay the Good Ol RHL FC Bible was far more useful than the ubiquitous google) The c: which you will see is actually existing in /$HOME/dosemu/freedos Now you know your mapping point. Fire the program and it comes up. Yeah.. just like that. DosBOX also works fine, However, The Screen cannot be Maximised. With DosEMU the screen can be maximized. Remaining Steps: **Making it run from multiple Linux Clients accessing this package on a Linux Server. ** Making sure that the printing works! Else the whole exercise would be a no go. So, Once this happens, the people to benefit? a) The company and employees. Currently atleast 1 person a day suffers for 3 hours of downtime due to viruses. b) The Tech Support engineer. Who comes does reinstall or reformat or Re-whatever each time things go wrong, thus spending X hours. It's like mopping the floor without shutting the tap. c)Anyone still running FoxPro apps pointlessly on Win Machines seeking redemption, here's your ray of light. c) Myself: I'll get my mug on the cover of Time Magazine or Jane's Defence Weekly. ============================================================ The following Case is really boring and without even a successful or potentially successful outcome. You might as well press your "NEXT" button. OK... If still interested, here goes. Office 2: Another small office running Tata EX Next Gen. Crossover office and wine failed to get my RH/FC boxes to talk to Tata EX Next Gen running on Win XP Pro (requiring SQL Server). The thick client installed fine. However on running, the symptoms it displayed were typical when it is unable to connect to the DB. The only thing different I had done while installing TataEX was to install MS SQL Server outside the EX directory. As thr EX directory was required to be shared, i thought keeping the DB unshared (Well in some way anyways) is a little more secure. So the Thick client talks to the Server which talks to the DB and accounting happens. %%I am not sure if variation in the installation of EX has caused my EX client to not find the DB.%% Since it is hardware lock based, and Installing EX on WinXP PRo is a pain, will be a while before I do a resintall with default settings and try running it. Trying to install SQL Server on RH9 using Wine failed. There is a thin line between ambition and foolhardiness they almighty Lord of Free Things wants to tell you through me. %%% Can anyone throw light on whether hardware locks are in any way OS dependent? Because I am gonna try installing EX Next Gen Single USer Version (which uses the MS Access Engine) on a FC3 Machine using Wine.
