So will some other big names, include MySQL founder David Axmark. This year's event will focus on localisation projects, PHP5, Python, MySQL and more. There's an awareness-building exercise for school students and teachers on the first day of the event (Feb 13, 2005) followed by an installfest and more. Organisers announced today (February 7, 2005) that they were to have Apache co-founder Brian Behlendorf taking part in the event. Samsung printer problem

I have a Samsung printer (ML-1520) on a Fedora 3 system. It was autodetected as a ML-1510 and was working fine until I made the mistake of installing Samsung's own drivers. The printer no more works under Linux (it's fine under Win). Worse, I am unable to run printconf or printconf-gui to rectify matters. Uninstalling the Samsung software hasn't helped. JNI and glibc doubt

Hi All, I am trying to do a "HelloWorld" program using JNI. The command "java HelloWorld" gives me: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /tmp/java_native/libhello.so: /tmp/java_native/libhello.so: only ET_DYN and ET_EXEC can be loaded Relevant (.c .h and .java) files are attached. The stack trace and commands are in stack.txt. I am thinking of purchasing the HP LaserJet 1010 for home use. Does this printer work well with Linux? The evidence from Google is mixed: linuxprinting.org goes as far as to say this is a "Windows only" printer and is "not recommended" under Linux. Hello, You may contact my vendor Absolute (Contact no: 26845600). I would recommend you to go for parts of which services are readily available. I had a very bad experience of motherboard (ASUS - A7S 266 VM) going faulty within 6 months of purchase. Since it was in warranty period I got service from my vendor without much trouble but it took in all "a complete month" to get it repaired. I was told that Tech Pacific (now Ingram Micro) are the sole service provider for AMD based systems and they take minimum one month to provide service. I don't know if vendor lied to me. But for whatever reasons, I was deprived of my system for one month because of delay in service. So I recommend you look for vendor's reputation and quality of service by agencies responsible for any brand you opt for before you fix on one. As for the reliability part I have no suggestion about any brand. I have seen both brands AMD and Intel based systems developing problems over time. Regards Peeyush

The reason: HP will disclose hardware details under a very onerous NDA, which no sane person will sign let alone a FOSS developer. Cases in point winmodems, several canon and hp printers, flash disks, graphic display cards etc. However there have been a few cases that are the opposite, where the gnu.linux version is vastly superior eg. epson printers using gimp drivers. hi all, i would like to switch to linux from windows. but i feel nervous as i have never installed linux for regular usage like playing games, surfing the internet, etc. a constant fear lurks in the mind what if it does not detect my hardware, how do i configure it for cable internet considering that my cable internet provider may not know how to install internet on any other os other than windows. please can someone clear some of my doubts and give me guidance. thanks and regards, kevin

Hi I have been using Linux for the past 4 years (started out in mid 2000). My family members identify me as a linux Fanatic.After all these years they are used to names like Slackware/Red Hat/Ubuntu. My son who is 1.5 years old can already identify the logo of Red Hat.( I had casually mentioned this name along with other logos like pepsi,intel,ibm) and also likes the tux picture in magazines. I do not get much time to log on to my Pc other than office but the last time I started and ran windows was 6 months back. It is addictive!!!!!!! Ninad Bapat

Unfortunately you won't get a WinXP style ease of use in Linux... if that was the case any flavour of Linux would be the only thing in the market today... Apart from whatever the base installation does for you, if you need something specific, there's a good chance that you'll need to know quite a bit of command line stuff to get it to work. This is what the base camp refers to as the Unix philosophy (lots of dedicated command line tools that can work magic if combined by the right hands).. but as you have experienced this is the downside.

I have tried using configuring internet on linux using pppd and am getting following error. It says that I am connected, but no web page opens. Also ping replies with correct results to the ISP's IP address. Kindly send me solutions to same. X problem in SuSe

Dear luggers, I have SuSe-9.1 installed on my machine. I am getting problem in starting X server. I am getting following lines(errors) while running #startx (EE) open /dev/fb0: No such device Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/Speedo/, removing from list! Could not init font path element /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/fonts/CID/, removing from list! How to troubleshoot this problem. I have commented the fontpath in /etc/X11/XF86Config in files section but didn't worked. Red Hat has chkfontconfig to add and remove fontpath . How to set font path in SuSe ??? While this is happening My Xfce is working properly. I guess it must be font server (xfs) problem. what could be the problem and so does the solution ???? Thanks in advance. -Sachin
