qmail is not receiving mails

Hi, I have configured the qmail and it is working on two of the machines over my LAN. I have given have given names to the two hosts and local domain as well. My locals file contains : mailmladelhi.mladelhi.mine.nu My defaultdomain file contains: mladelhi.mine.nu locals file on other machine contains : ashwin.mladelhi.mine.nu defaultdomain file contains: mladelhi.mine.nu Now i have three users on both the machines and one of them is aliased for postmaster, mailerdaemon. I am successful in sending and receive mails among the local users on each machine. But when i try to send mails from an user from one machine to the other, it does not receive the mails. Starting with RAM, perhaps the CPU and then eventully putting into place a clustered solution. I am not very certain to what extent the choice of LAMP vs J2EE would effect this, except that the machine(s) hosting the J2EE App Server will require greater resources. However if we were to deploy the application over a cluster of servers as the application scaled up, then I hava heard that J2EE App Servers lend greater stability as opposed to a LAMP solution. This is something that I have read, but do not have any practical experience. So please correct if it's worng. As for number 3. All applications will have post deployment enhancements As an application undergoes these changes, it should still be understandable/maintenable as well as robust. Also effort of making these changes should be as low as possible. This sort of scalability is achieved by a good architecture more than anything else. J2EE enforces certain standards and proposes a blueprint for application developers. If these standards are followed properly, the application becomes more understandabe and maintenable. Also many people find it easier to understand code written in a strongly typed language (Java/C++) than a weakly typed language (PHP), especially when dealing with a large code base. Offcourse a badly coded J2EE app would be just as hard to maintain. However the existence of standards and a J2EE blueprint would support writing better code. There are a lot of infrastructure level components that go into making a large application. Things like database pooling, MVC libraries, templating mechanism, authentication and authorization, persistence, etc, etc. Some of these are taken care of by the J2EE application server, hence making the application portable accross App Servers, and reducing the programmers effort in having to either build them or integrate 3rd party components. These are some factors favouring J2EE. I have been given to understand that LAMP on the other hand has a smaller learning curve and one can build applications far quicker than if they were to use J2EE. However these factors can often be overridden by by purely non-technical reasons, as Shuvam mentioned in an earlier mail. However I have never used C++ to build enterprise level applications, so I am not familiar with it's strenghts. Java does have shortcomings, mainly those of speed. However there are ways to work around them. My biggest issue with Java used to be that Sun released too many libraries too soon without really ensuring quality. Though I believe they have become better at that. About LAMP query

I have gone through all the post related to LAMP... I feel, I should give more details regarding nature of automated system required... So that I can get some specific pointers... System Requirement: 1. It will be mainly a small 3000 to 5000 record database with student details 2. As of now, main application of it is to generate exam grade reports... 3. And it should be able to give concise & well formatted reports, which could be printed on ordinary printers 4. The periodic backup of records, if it can be integrated in automation system, rather than relying on OS level backup. According to me, there are three main parts of the system, 1) Data Entry of records 2) Algorithm to generate reports based on schools grading logic 3) Report Generation & Printing My View * 1st & 3rd part functions should be extremely user friendly. * Business logic should be isolated into module of its own, and tightly secured. (I don't know how?) * Report generation will be multilingual (English, Gujarati), so better printing support. Now, 1) If at all LAMP is feasible? I want to know how to achieve the following: 1. user based/ group based Profiling i.e. Some users have the access to send mails only to local domain , while some can send/receive mails both to the local domain and the outside world 2. Hi friends, I am a student and currently using linux 2.4.18(RH 8) & linux 2.4.20 for almost 6 mnths.Now, there is a slight prob I recently installed Win 2000 OS on one of the free partitions and on doing so it erased my MBR.I have misplaced both the boot disks somewhere so its like I can't boot in both of my linux sys.Is there any way i can reconfigure my MBR i.e start my boot loader(grub) from another OS (like Knoppix) ? Hi, I have installed the qmail 1.03 successfully. Name resolution speedup

Hi, Well I am student and my college provides us with a lease line connection for the internet . The problem is that we use DNS provided by the BSNL . Thus whenever I have to resolve for a site it take lot's of time . Thus I would like to setup a small dNS server on my machine so that all the lookups I have done so far are cached and I don't need to go up to BSNL DNS . Is there anyway I can do it if yes Pls point me to such a location on the net .I have read DNS howto but couldn't understand much out of it . bye Tushar

broken NIS clients

Hello friends, I recently ran an upgrade on my system which is debian sid(most of it) during the upgrade I noticed that libc6 version is also being upgraded . After the upgrade I noticed that my machine rejects any NIS login. It allows login through local accounts though. I have attched two sections of auth.log file here user shashank is a NIS user. If I do ypcat passwd or passwd.byname I get the entire passwd db from NIS sever. also ypwhich points to correct ypserver. We have only one NIS server on the network and no NIS slaves running. My experience with NIS is not very vast. i810 Framebuffer

Hi, I can't get my framebuffer parameters to work on my system. I tried putting them into /etc/modules.conf (options i810fb vram=4 and so on... ) but i still have to give the parameters everytime I need to modprobe. I finally settled with mentioning the parameters in /etc/modules (assumed that each line would probably be concatenated with modprobe call) and it worked that way. But I want a 'legal' way out. I'm using the 2.6.0-test4 kernel with i810 framebuffer installed as module. Also, on a seperate topic, has anyone got modconf working with the 2.6 kernel? (debian users). Regards, Siddhesh.

User groups in developing countries are always tempted to focus on activities that are useful exclusively for people in that country--but remember, the free software you use exists because we focused on activities that would be useful world-wide. Naturally you may want to work on localization and local popularization, but don't let that make you forget to contribute to the global stock of free software. It would be good also to aid efforts to insist on free software in Indian schools. Giving kids copies of Windows is like giving them tobacco--it's a plan to make them addicts when they grow up. And in general, please work on political organizing. Tell Indian voters that a good way to recognize politicians who can resist influence peddling is to pick the ones who firmly support free software. If they could resist Microsoft's influence peddling, they can resist anyone's influence peddling. hi, i have copied the contents of the red-hat 9.0 installation cd's to my hdd.(/tmp/Shrike) i would like to use the red-hat gui based package installation tool. but the gui application searches for the the red-hat disc to be present in the cdrom. i guess i need to mount a folder within a filesystem onto a directory (ie /mnt/cdrom). if by a miracle what i said is right how can it be done.. or is there any other way to work around this? thanks rahul

Now i am installing oracle developer suite ,but after completing 64% while linking, error comes "error making target install of make file ins_plsql.mk" . I have serached the net found that in the $ORACLE_HOME/bin/genclntsh file ,the line LD_SELF_CONTAINED="-z defs" has to be changed to LD_SELF_CONTAINED=" " then i executed the genclntsh script as a oracle user. but the same error is coming again . i have checked for gcc, glibc, binutils ...all are installed properly. please help. --- amol

Is it possible to write a shell script to extract the number of files added in a particular directory in a specific time duration (lets say last 2 hours) and then dtermine how many combinations have the same file size and based on that, do a file compare for the extracted files having same file size. Do you want to make your work relevant to many others? The FSF (in the US) is developing the Free Software Directory, whose aim is to list all free software that will run on a completely free GNU or GNU/Linux system. It sounds like that is similar to the FSD. However, currently the directory lists only 2400 packages, and there are thousands more to go. Our paid staff person can only check and add some 1000 packages per year. A part-time volunteer can easily add 150 packages per year. We now have one such volunteer, in Brasil. If we had five more volunteers, we could maybe enter 2000 new packages per year. Would anyone like to volunteer? It requires some training to learn to follow our practices, to make your entries reliable and consistent with the rest of the directory, so we're looking for people who will make a commitment to keep working steadily on the directory for a year or more.
