I am doing this little experiment in cron, but not able to make it work. I want cron to play a certain mp3 file at a certain time. So I add the usual time parameters and add the following to the command field: /usr/bin/ffplay <path to my mp3 file> But cron mails me an error which I have attached as text file. I also tried "/bin/bash /usr/bin/ffplay <path to my mp3 file>" but it does not work. Where am I going wrong? Problems with Reliance connection on Karmic Koala

Hello, Several attempts are required to get online with my Reliance NetConnect modem on Karmic Koala. The connection usually drops without connecting at all, or after a half hour or so. On Jaunty Jackalope, the modem connects without problems (using wvdial). Request help with this gross net loss. Please let me know if you need additional info. Offline-and-hating-it

Dear Friends Want to know how to tie up an installation to a particular HDD. We do Linux implementations and had seen people ghost the whole harddisks to save on implementation charges. Currently we are using a commercial solution that costs us dear and does not let us bring down the cost of deployment. What we thus require is: 1. We can tie up the installation with the hdd serial number with some command / application that can... a. Check the harddisk serial number before booting (may be through GRUB - but to my knowledge, such a command does not exist within GRUB). b. Delete the installed partition where we have installed our deployment and applications if not matching. c. Encrypt the data partition with a key that only we can decrypt. 2. We can run our entire installation from a DVD provided that is tied with an online system which will not allow the system to boot unless the key matches with the one in our database. Cairo cross compile

Hi All, I am trying to cross compile GTK+ in hawkboard (www.hawkboard.org). I have already cross compiled the following successfully for hawkboard: atk fontconfig freetype glib libxml2 pixman Now when I try to cross compile cairo, configure gives the following error: configure: error: Cairo requires at least one font backend. Hello, Many of the users who rant of others top posting have been guilty of worse discourtesies in the past. I remember one of the so-called 'senior' users has called someone a moron. That same user has appointed himself a custodian of netiquette. I suspect that this ranting about top-posting is merely a pretext to keep their name appearing on the list i.e to boost their egos. I saw this mentioned on DistroWatch and downloaded the iso. I was pleasantly surprised when it loaded (a live cd) on a 486/66 with 32 MB RAM . Unfortunately it did not recognize the serial mouse on com2. I sent a message to the author <dr_ashim(a)hotmail.com> with no response. Without the mouse I could not navigate very well but it seems to be a nice distro that can run even on such ancient systems . It would be nice if some talented person takes this under their wing and help recycle those ancients. Regards hg. PS: how can I (computer illiterate) get this to recognize serial mouse (& comm ports). Feather Linux, very similar to this is also an orphan it seems.

Hi friends, Software Freedom Law Centre, New Delhi(SFLC-ND) and Free Software Movement-Karnataka (FSMK) are celebrating Software Freedom Day, by organizing Talks and events by one of the mavericks of the Knowledge Freedom campaigns and an affiliate of SFLC-ND - Prof.Eben Moglen,Founder, Director-Counsel and Chairman of Software Freedom Law Center. In this visit to Bangalore, Prof.Eben Moglen will be participating in three separate events organized by FSMK. *1. Inaugural Lecture of Free Software certificate course at St.Joseph's College,Bangalore on the 15th September 4 p.m.* St.Joseph's College, Bangalore has incorporated 120 hours of free software sessions to be handled by FSMK and other like-minded Free Software Enthusiasts. The course syllabus will be put up on website of FSMK very soon. The idea is to to empower students to become productive self-supporting citizens of the free software community. Its an honour to have professor Eben deliver the first lecture of the course. *2. Prof.Eben at Ambedkar Community Computing Center (AC3) on the 16th September., evening* Before two years, RMS and Prof.Eben visited AC3 with only a few students who were being taught computers using Free Software. Today, these handful of young free software activists from the community are running three other Community Computing Centers completely on their own. Prof.Eben will visit AC3 for a community discussion, where the members of these centers will initiate a discussion on the activities so far, the ups and downs and the way forward. Gnome-Do bug

I recently formatted and reinstalled Ubuntu 10.04 , succeeded by Gnome-Do (latest stable version). Gnome-Do automatically exits after 5 min something of its start whithout giving any errors. Sometimes, after selecting any plugin too. It was working fine with previous version of Ubuntu i was using till last week. Hello, My earlier message should have read as below. Many of the users who rant of others not trimming their mails, top-posting, bottom-posting and other bits of prissiness have been guilty of worse discourtesies in the past. I remember one of the so-called 'senior' users has called someone a moron. The same user has now appointed himself a custodian of netiquette. I suspect that this ranting about trimming mails and such is merely a pretext to keep their name appearing on the list i.e to boost their egos. Regards Suhit Kelkar.

Vedic calendar algorithm

I am making a simple symbian app in Python which will take Gregorian calendar date from user and convert it to Vikram Sanvat /Shak samvat of Vedic calendar. unfortunately, the hindu calendar varies much from the our de-facto system in no. of days in months. So, I am looking for an algorithm which does it effectively , otherwise, I will have to write it from scratch which may have some bugs(in dates). the app first calculates the time in seconds(unix epoch way) then converts it to gregorian.
