burning RH cds

hi luggerz some of u might laugh on this but.... have a prob, i tried writing a RH installation cd on a blank cd, but the new cd is'nt bootable.... now how do i make those CDs bootable?? to write CDs i was using windows and the HP application 'coz the writer is not mine and the system that has the writer is not mine, so have to bare up. plz comment Gurpreet

[OT] MASM in Linux

Hi! i tried to run MASM in Linux using dosemu+freedos but i get the following error: Phar Lap err 35: The 386 chip is currently executing in virtual 8086 mode under the control of another program. You must turn off this other program in order to use 386|DOS-Extender to run in protected mode. will i b able to run MASM ? or do i hav to resort to inline assembly ? (Turbo C works fine in dosemu) BTW can ny1 tell wot the error means nd how did the program come to know abt all the stuff ... (I guess the error means : u r running 386 in real mode , switch to protected mode. right ? ) Also I'm confused : DOS is supposed to work in real mode right ? -- Thx Nikhil

Network help

Hi all !! i tried network in linux-to-linux computers as well as linux-to-windows computers. The problem, which i am facing is, when i installed samba protocol, i am able to access windows computer from linux computer(all files and folders available on windows computer), but from windows computer, i can get only hardware level connectivity, i.e. only ping is working, i am getting a reply for ping. But neither i can see linux computer in network neighbourhood nor from run utility, it is only one way connection. When i tried networking in linux-to-linux computer. To do that, i have done following steps.. 1.Install network in both linux computers. 2.Checked hardware level connectivity. 3. share directory from linux computer, from /etc/exports file & start demon services again. But when i tried to acces shared directory from another linux computer using mount command, i get the message permission denied, when i have given full control to any user for the workgroup. hi all, found solution to my problem, my mails were looping back to the sender saying <first(a)test.cnpl.co.in>: This message is looping: it already has my Delivered-To line. Ping Problem

Hello All, I am quite new to Linux system. I installed Red Hat 7.1 on my home computer, which is a stand alone pc, and has no network connected. During installation my mouse was malfunctioning and I may have missed some N/w configuration screens. The problem is whenever i try pinging localhost ping 127.0.0.1 it gives this error: connect: no network found. I tried changing the NETWORKING field to "no" in the file /etc/sysconfig/network Also I checked /etc/hosts for localhost and its there. I discovered this error when I installed webmin and tried to browse to http://127.0.0.1:10000 to run it. Gurpreet, You must have copied the entire CD on the HDD first & then burn the copied contents on a blank CD...Bootable CD's cant be copied that way...Try DISKCOPY'ing the CD & it will work... Hi, I am trying to compile kernel version 2.4.19-rc1 on my linux box. Presently I have REDHAT7.2 ,with Kernel2.4.7-10 . I want to have kerneld compiled in the kernel(CONFIG_KERNELD).But when I do "make config" The option for Kerneld does not come up at all. Was the option removed ?? Or am I doing something wrong ?? Hi! I had a conversation with my B.E. comp friend about Linux. Basically he is doing a project in VC++ fr:So you are doing project in Linux right ? me:yeah. C programming in Linux fr:Oh,does Linux have VB,VC ? me:No fr:hmm... so will my VC programs run on Linux? me:No fr:Then what's the use of Linux? I was stupified. (OK Windows programs can b emulated but still they cannot 'run' right ?) This is from a guy who had Operating Systems,System Programming,Microprocessor in his syllabus I guess the whole syllabus is 'DOS' oriented. ppl still cannot digest the fact that there are many other compilers other than the 'standard' Turbo C++ 3.0 Also I've observed that this is the general awareness/attitude of Comp. ppl abt Linux. I can only imagine what it must be like for Arts/Commerce/ ppl to understand what is Linux -- Nikhil

If you have compiled and installed the see to it if they are available in the include and library paths while compling mp3 blaster. Inclide thos paths in /etc/ld.so.conf (its a simple text file) and run ldconfig. This generally does the trick. A simpler way would be to use binary packages. Regards, Amol.

As Indians with limited resources, GNU and free (as in freedom, not give aways)is the way to go. Besides the point, one can't really take the digestive system out of an animal and say that it suffers from excess wind. X _is_ slow, running it standalone wasn't at all envisaged when X was developed. However if one wants a GUI on a standalone there's no choice, but to use it. Hi! I am having redhat 6.2 (2.2.19) I have network adapter of 1) intel epro100 2) intel pro 1000 I have to reload the inet service 3 to 4 times a day I have tried changing the lan card.
