I've seen the stuff at www.linuxvirtualserver.org and at lcic.org, But haven't been able to find a precise problem. Has anybody on the list worked in that area??? I found out this in man pages but I dont know how to do that anyone please tell me all the related commands and configurations for enabling mac address access control in squid thanks Hiten. To use ARP (MAC) access controls, you first need to compile in the optional code. quota problem

You can either set them up in that partition, or have the local mail delivery program to deliver mail to some file in the users' directories. 4GB files in /lost+found

Hi, Yesterday I was forced to hard reboot my Linux and when it passed through e2fsck it showed errors in lots of inodes. After going through fsck(where all I did is choose default answer) when I checked lost+found there were around 1200 files of size 4GB(HD space is 8GB). 'ls -l' doesnt show type of the file(it shows '?' question mark). Now if I try to remove those files it says 'Operation not permitted'. I also tried 'chmod 644' but that too fails. So now what are theses files? How do I remove these files? lost+found also shows several block and character devices, I was unable to remove those too. Is there a separate command say 'rmnod' to remove such files? Also my harddisk is NOW showing 1GB free, as far as I knew it only had 200MB space left, does it mean I have lost the files? Can this happen? I was under impression that any unattached inodes go to lost+found. Also there can't be 800MB of data open at time of reboot that all get corrupted and lost. But suprisingly all daily operations seem to be working fine. So point is where did free space come from? What files were lost? How do I find? I am totally lost :-) Thanks for help. Amish. P.S. Kernel version is 2.2.17 and I am using the machine since 2 yrs and is reasonably stable.

I m having dos attack on my apache web server which is also simeltenously having our imap as well as pop3 server have checked with top it some times of the day gives more cpu consumption and by uptime I came to know that there are no. of active users goes up from 3 to 4 (average) to 20 or more after checking httpd logs I came to know that someone is asking for *.exe files from different ips we have a consaltunt but he says he doesnt have any solution for the timebeing he says to stop and restart the httpd service when it happens do u have any comments we are having dedicated connection and around 500+ email users please infrom me if there are any monitoring tools for sendmail /dos attack /apache which can be monitored in real time thanks Hiten. __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Dear Luggers, Hi...2 all..... I m facing a problem for configuring 2 NIC for sharing my Internet Connection. Plz. find the complete problembelow. I m having 2 Machines. On one I m having Direct Cable Internet Connection...i.e. on Ethernet Technology. And that machine is having Linux 7.1 with Squid configured properly. I want to share that on 2-3 machines. All other machines having Win98. I want to set up its TCP/IP Configuration as Using DHCP Server and I want to make my first PC as DHCP Server for my Internal Network. For that matter I edited the file /etc/dhcpd.conf Its contents is as follows in /etc/dhcpd.conf subnet 192.168.0.0 netmask 255.255.255.0 { range 192.168.0.2 192.168.0.10; option subnet-mask 255.255.255.0; option broadcast-address 192.168.0.255; option routers 192.168.0.1; } subnet 202.131.99.81 netmask 255.255.255.0 { option broadcast-address 202.131.99.255; option routers 202.131.99.81; } And then I restart DHCP Service using "dhcpd -f" command. Then it has given me error as follows. Listening on Socket /etc/192.168.0.0 Sending on Socket /etc/192.168.0.0 No subnet declaration for eth0 (202.131.99.81) Please write a subnet declaration in your dhcpd.conf file for the network segment to which interface eth0 is attched. exiting. My Internet Service Provider has provided us some fixed IPs...I would like to mentioned that I already started Squid for Netsharing. After that I've provided all the machines IP address manually. And I can be able to browse the websites. But I want to make my Linux machine as DHCP server for my Internetwork. So, in above situation where the defect amy be left by me...???? Bad major or minor number

Distro RH6.2 (zoot i think) Mount -t vfat /dev/hda1 /win results in unable to mount /dev/hda1 bad major or minor number ls -l /dev/hda shows major as 3 and minor as 0 (3, 1 in case of hda1) which afaik is correct. This is a 17gb disk on a machine with bios which can read only 8 gb. Exceept for the above problem linux occupying the upper 8gb works happily. Windows/Linux IP forwarding?

Here's the situation: Net DSL Windowsbox LAN(dhcp) Linuxbox The LAN, naturally, has a 192.168.0.0 range of IPs (I think it's a class C). The DSL modem is connected to the Winbox on USB and the LAN is a 5-port hub supporting a windows network, with my Linux box (say hello to gort, folks) creeping in using dhcpd. The Linux box, and any box on the LAN, can access everything. I think the Net cannot access anything but the Windows box on the DSL modem (see <http://gort.cjb.net/>. That's the Winbox.). Now I need POP3 (and HTTP et al, if possible) access to the Linux box from the outside world. IP forwarding is enabled on the Winbox. What do I do now? Hi, Probably I shouldnt post this here but this looks to be best source for good crackers. :-). Just last sunday i was trying to figure out how cyberoam client encrypts password, but I failed :-). Here is sample file attached, u can open in Excel as tab sepatated file and 'text' formatting of all fields instead of general formatting. Basically first field is timestamp and then each of passwords character is replaced by 3 digit number based on some algorithm. There is one more key probably used and I dont know if it is related to adaptor address. In my case its 00:50:BA:8D:42:F4. This exists in all authentication requests.(see sample) The 3 digit number seems to change with time as its the only thing changing, rest known keys remaining the same. If somebody wants to reverse engineer the client I can send them the exe(setup too) if its legal to do so(is it?). Once algorithm is known, I will try to come up with Linux client as early as possible. Thanks. However imho RH is entitled to protect it's brand name and must take to court those who distribute RH copies as RH in an attempt to hijack it's brand equity. Chandra Narayanaswami's Lecture

I has gone to Candra Narayanaswami's lecture at TIFR today. He's the researcher from IBM wearable computing division who built the Linux powered watch. The talk was really good he explained stuff in good detail and showed a movie about the linux watch. He even passed a linux watch and the circuit inside the watch for everyone to see. The watch uses the Strong ARM processor by Cirus Logic it has 8 MB flash memory runs the 2.2 kernel with X11 R6 has a touch screen IRDA and RF interfaces for communication. the battery has hold up to 60 hours the coolest part of the watch was the 700 dpi Organic Light Emitting Display which is supposed to be the resolution of a laser printer the display is crytal clear and also saves power. nmap messages

hi, whenever i try the OS detection option of nmap, i get this message : sendto in send_tcp_raw: sendto(3, packet, 60, 0, ipaddr, 16) => Operation not permitted (where "ipaddr" is the target's ip address). As far as Vijay Mukhi is concerned, in todays Bombay Times someone asked him, "Why is it not possible to install two Operating Systems on the same hard disk ?" To which he replied "Because those who make the OS dont want you to do so." Someone please teach him about Partitioning the hard disk. His column is sometimes more hilarious than Cyrus Broacha's.
