TALLY ERP 9 UBUNTU 8.10 (Interprid) Desktop

Dear Members, I have installed Interprid Ubuntu Desktop on My EEE PC B202 which is Atom 1.6Ghz I want to use Tally 9 ERP on it. I Installed Wine from the package manager & Installed Tally on it. Tally opens fast but it does not open the data file fast, It hangs , the data files are on a windows share which I have mounted on to /mnt/Tally The same thing works ok on another desktop using Interprid , please help with the settings ? strange case of chm files which don't open correctly

Recently had gone over to linuxappfinder.com and was seeing the software collection of alternatives to windows softwares. Came across free-cad.sourceforge.net. Downloaded the help documentation in chm format (bottom, right corner of the home page under most downloaded section). Tried opening the CHM file with xchm. It opens as a plain text file with all the html tags etc. Maybe there are better (more uptodate) chm readers available now than the xchm I am now using. If anybody knows of such softwares, pls let me know. Earlier (on another computer while using ubuntu 8.10 or 8.04) i had come across another chm/ebook reader software using synaptic but haven't installed it yet on the 9.04 computer. Thanks, Kussh

setup vlc as my default multimedia application in ubuntu9.04

Right now totem is set as the default application for all multimedia related files and it does not work as it should--i.e. there is no sound when any multimedia file is opened--even for ogg or wav files. Video files run but without any sound. I can't get totem to work correctly but vlc works perfectly. I tried all the usual tricks--install the bad files, restricted formats, etc etc but totem does not work. gxine and others also work but totem does not. So my question is --which configuration file needs to be tweaked such that all multimedia formats by default open with VLC and not with totem? am using ubuntu9.04 and have an integrated sound card on an asus motherboard. Have changed the properties of most multimedia formats in nautilus to open with VLC instead of totem by default but there are cases such as while using search or other applications (such as kalarm) where the default system program for multimedia (ie totem) gets activated. Dear All, A very disappointed morning for me. My laptop got stolen. is it possible to track laptop using MAC address. Police asked for MAC address. Q1 . How to track using MAC address or any other possibility ? Q2. How to get mac address when you do not have laptop with you. I have done ssh to other lan systems, Will it be possible to get mac address using those .ssh keys ?? Or any method to get mac address. Hello folks, As you all might know, the Mozilla community released Firefox 3.5 a few days ago. The new browser incorporates a lot of features of the HTML 5 specification, and we consider it a leap forward for the web. To celebrate the release, demo new features in Firefox 3.5, and discuss issues of the Open Web and standards, we are organizing an event on this Sunday, July 19th, at National College, Bandra(W) in Mumbai. The main event will be held from 3-6PM at National College. We are actively looking for people to conduct sessions related to Firefox 3.5, HTML 5, or the Open Web. Hello, As part of the MHRD funded open source mission at IITB, Asokan and I are planning a 2 day Python workshop: Topic: Programming with Python Date: 25, 26th July 2009 (weekend) Time: 1400 hrs to 1800 hrs Venue: CDEEP seminar hall Instructors: Asokan P and Prabhu Ramachandran This is targeted at students of engineering who will be able to use Python as their core language for scientific and engineering computing. The course will be done at CDEEP and will be broadcast live via EDUSAT and also webcast (http://www.cdeep.iitb.ac.in/). Attendees are strongly encouraged to bring along laptops since the instruction is entirely hands on. We will be able to provide some extra laptops for use but the numbers will be limited. Chrome OS. What is this Chrome OS? Is it a derivative of yet another Linux Distro? Is it a yet another marketing campaign of Google against its well known rivals? Or Is it a new experiment to drive user traffic after the success of Gmail, Orkut, Google Earth and other web tools? Whatever the reason may be, it appears to be yet another warship strategy of Google that announces “Try to stop me if you can!” This had indeed raised lots of questions, curiosity and may be even a wave of insecurity to some existing OS developers, especially when its claimed to be FOSS (Free Open Source Software) release.
