Hello All, Here are some useful softwares you can use. 1. http://linux.simple.be/tools/sbm The Smart Boot Manager is a floppy image that can be burned into a floppy to make it a universal boot utility. I discovered it accidentally in the Xbuntu 6.10 CD ( smb.bin ) when trying to run it on an old Celeron 300, 64 MB RAM machine that had a CD ROM but could not boot it due to the old BIOS. The beauty of this utility is that it lists everything that is bootable, including all HDD partitions and you simply select the required device and hit enter. It eliminates the need for dedicated boot floppies for every distro CD. It was usefull in installing Etch-Xfce on that machine. 2. http://www.blogbridge.com/ This is an open source RSS reader that can be installed in your system so you don't need to let third party reader web sites know what you are reading. Photos of first OLPC pilot in India

As 2007 was drawing to a close, I got a chance to visit the OLPC deployment in Khairat, India. This deployment is supported by Reliance, one of the largest industrial groups in India. I have uploaded photos from the visit and added a small description to each photo. [Commercial] Linux CDs/DVDs at low prices.

I am planning to sell Linux CDs/DVDs on an on-demand download basis. CDs -- Rs.20 and DVDs -- Rs.40. I already have a few Ubuntu/Kubuntu/Edubuntu CDs that I wish to give away freely. There is a team from Reliance that is supporting the OLPCs. Or is it the original stuff. None. It has the Sugar interface that is based on Fedora that is customises specially for children. This was built by the OLPC team and Red Hat along with others. One OLPC is now in the Pune center of Red Hat where some of the localization will happen. Interestingly, the students are Marathi medium students and not all of them use English fluently but they use the OLPC features quite well. Venky

Recently I renewed the connection by making an online payment using a credit card and it worked fine. I am sure I used Firefox to do that, and can not remember any problems. tata indicom online payment

Hey, Alrite, I wanted to let you guys know that I've been using TATA Indicom Broadband, since quite some time, and well, they have this option to make online payments. Interestingly its been over 3 months of complaining and they still cant rectify the problem. The best part is the problem is extremely stupid. The Problem: The payment section of the site doesnt work in firefox and works fine in internet explorer. Honestly, Im so overwhelmed with the stupidity and idiocracy, I just had to share this IE experience. Perhaps, someone can talk some sense into their twisted js coder. Regards, Satish Alwani

Devnagari Phonetic Input

Hello All Wish you all a Very Happy New year Its been a long time since I posted to the list. I have been using fedora as my distribution. Currently on fedora 8. I used the ISIS applet for Devnagari text input in Gnome and I must say its a really great piece of software , its really impressive. http://www.bangla.name/isis/ But I noticed that there is no way to use the applet in KDE. I would really like to use this applet in KDE. I have friends who use linux too , and all of them work primarily with KDE. So can anyone please guide me as to how to use the applet in kde. If that is not possible, I was wondering if it is possible that the applet can be "ported" to KDE by the kde.in team? That would give a real boost to local-language computer use in linux. In KDE I tried using the keymaps (IN keymap -> Bolnagri variant for phonetic) options available in Kcontrol Centre , but the problem is that its mapping is not "really "phonetic" and efficient and fast as the ISIS Applet provides, atleast for me.
