our college Fr CRCE, popularly know as fr agnel , bandra also has a GNU/linux lab, server and all.
Also it is the only college which probably has a LUG in the college -complete with mailing list and all....we all had login/passwds ,email accts... the best thing is this - all this is being managed by students -dedicated ones.

ALso yes FE Unix is confirmed - but pls dont be too optimistic ...heres the real scene - FE's (first year guys) have 6 subjects , Unix with C being one of them

Most students find a FE a hard life anyway, at least in FE their main concern is passing the year. most dont really appreciate unix ..for the time being. i think its the job of their seniors to guide them, but few of them (seniors) have ever seen a computer run anything other than windows. BUT i am sure getting unix in the first year is the best thing the university has done in years! It will really help get unix / linux going, amongst the students, besides "opening" their minds and really being exposed to something worthwhile.
Also Linux initiative in colleges - pls catch only 2/3rd year students. reason - only students who will want to work for u are students who want to do an MS in CS/EE/CE in usa. For which they need to show they were geeks all along , Linux being the perfect route ..specially when they do something for college - like organise "seminars " for NCST and TIFR(biig names) guys. this will be exaggerated to one paragraph in their recommendations and most engineering profs will blindly sign --so pls be careful abt the whole scene.
I dont agree with what you say, because people who are not technically inclined dont bother with anything other than doing well in papers, people who are interested have better things to write about. I find the above paragraph full of sarcasm and showing engineering students of the mumbai university in poor light.
and yea right now I am in PCS , working for General Electric-Aircraft Engines on Java/JSP/servlets .....this is where most engineer learn their fundas - the 3 month industry training after college ..
fundas? i guess this is application. fundas are learnt in college.
