The word is free beer not free bear. A bear is a huge grizzly growly animal that is not fun to have around even if given free of cost.
My mistake, my bad. Teddy Bears are nice yaar. People pay money to have it in all forms and all sizes. My cousin couldnot sleep without it even when she was 12 or maybe more.
That's a pretty sweeping statement to make, isn't it?
In my opinion, RMS is one of the most important figures in the field of computing, right up there with Turing and Tim Berners-Lee. If it weren't for him computing as we know it wouldn't have existed.
Open standard computing and may be free web-hosting servers.
And the
Internet would have remained a small academic network connecting a few thousand universities. In fact, we wouldn't have been having this conversation at all.
I dun know what are you on. But I am on a MAC. And mind you the penetration of computing has happened world wide because of PC's & peripherals which run M$ Windows. And trust me in India people use a lot of assembled computers which by my guess runs a pirated version of Microsoft Windows.
With due respect to his efforts, from the evolution point of view, if he
had not done it, someone else would have done it.
Well I only appreciate the point that he has not given up. He has stood not like a fragment but like a milestone on the timeline of computing.
Computers have not depended on one person to evolve.
I agree but throughout history its always 1 man who has defined and added a line or two to the chapters in a flowing book called history. By the way did you know that Indian history is as written by the British. In the constitution book of India it is written, "India i.e. Bharat". and not Hindustan. Can u guess me why?
Having said that, I feel it is wrong to call him a defeated soldier as Naveen put it. He is the Amitabh Bachan of the software world and he had his glory days of innovation and development. Now he's old so cannot be expected to churn out code every day. People do retire. The new generation will now take over from him. Those who have met Amitabh and heard him speak may not be keen on meeting him again but there are many who would like to see him, meet him, talk to him so the announcement is for those individuals.
Amitabh Bacchan is called the last mogul of indian cinema though he is a hindu. He was the angry young man of Indian Cinema or call it bollywood for more than two or three decades. He took around 5 years of retirement and then launched the cash rich ABCL. He made more money with the talent hunt contest and launched 2+2 (male+female) new faces. He launched the Miss World Pageant and was ruined in terms of liquid cash assets. He did some movies with actress of less than half of his age and they were all flops, though launched and marketed in style. He got back in the Star plus KBC and made a fortune. He penetrated into the talks of every common man like I knew the answer to that question. Then roles were written for him and I think he has made a huge come back. An actor is some one who portrays characters in the cinema, people love the character and pursue the glory of the character in the actor and maybe vice versa and both outside the media in its various forms and inside the hearts and desires to pursue excellence in different facets of life. AB is a face head of IIFA and he speaks well.
Now tell me your take in this context and your perception about your idol, ideal or guru or icon or champ called RMS. I am eagerly waiting.
