Welcome to the world of screwed up partition table. Windows and Linux do not see eye to eye about partitions (as in other things ;). If one partitions and repartitions using the linux fdisk there is a chance that windows may see wierd stuff.
First : is your partition identifier for the /dev/hda6 set to linux native? If yes, then whidows should _not_ see this partition. Try to see what the windows fdisk tells you about the partition table. Warning: even just viewing the table /may/ delete some partition and loose data -- it has happenend to me. It is inexplicable but happends. This does not happen with the Linux fdisk ;-)
I think you will find that your windows and Linux fdisk's do not agree. In which case you will have to be very carefull as you proceed and be prepared to repartition. It is all trial and error from here on...

I tried the 'hide (hd0,5)' option in the grub console, but even that doesn't work. I tried searching around in google for it. Couldn't find anything useful. Please help.
I have a windows partition as hda5. But in windows it shows an unrecognized device as D and the windows partition as E.
