A little diversion from the topic, but similar to Sameer Shinde's querry.

I am also new to linux as such. Our firm does software development for specialiased costing and commercial applications, using VB on windows platform. We want to start software development on Linux (at least for fun, if not for selling it). What are the options and how do we learn the languages ? Is there some VB like language in Linux ?

I, also, want to contribute my efforts to some of the linux

projects. Before that I want to tell u few things about me.

I don't know much about the linux b'coz

I'm learning the linux by myself ( just by trial & error method ) & to be very honest to you I don't know much programing languages like, php, perl, java & many other, wht u ppl know & most probably will be working in. I just know html (in which my web site is), C ( wht I learned in my college )& little of C++ ( wht I'm learning by my self ). b'coz I always being interested in doing some real life projects but never get any chance.

Even I don't know the kernel compilation. But still I want to

work with u ppl (may be small part ) on some projects. B'coz I'm very much sure that, if I get a chance to work on some project, I can learn & can work with you.
