Chamba project (http://www.chambaproject.in) is an ambitious effort to create a Swathanthra (Free/Libre) Animation Movie by pooling in contributions from people around the world and funding artists directly. It is an initiative to experiment and explore a more collaborative and open approach to film making, aiming to be appealing, easy to be a part of and easy to contribute for hobbyists, enthusiasts and professionals alike using FOSS tools, resources, and the power of social networking.
Yesterday at Barcamp Kerala while Hiran V was proposing the Chamba project , there was lot of discussion on ' why not maya' and it also even went to a faculty of amritha questioning ' if you ask people to use blender you will get very less people ' and also suggested ' to use maya and release the code in public repo ' .
Watching that discussion and a similar one where I had to answer on "why not mapmaker, google, eart, kml etc " . It went to a suggestion to prepare a slideshow/table or presentation highlighting the usefullness/advantages of blender when compared to its propreitary alternatives .
I didn't want to compare something which I didn't use . If anyone has any links do share them .
