In the first type, I agree that my wiki has a lot of spam - but not uncontrollable, and not to the extent of shutting down the wiki. In the second type, a proper registration policy keeps spammers out.
if someone volunteers to keep the wiki clean then we can have publicly editable wiki as well, absolutely no problems with that.
