hello Shankar.....since u seem to b pretty level headed......why not u call the shots here......i am willing to tale the responsibility of image building, meeting commercial companies, setting thingz up as and when required, co-ordinating the efforts of the members nd students.
I suggest.......we begin by getting this down in concrete.
So.......letz get don with the Project list nd the Agenda for our Projecr Resource Center.
I think that we need to do this in a very systematic and professional manner, if it is to work. Apart from needing really dedicated ppl on the job, I think we are in need of the following:
a.. Clear and well defined processes, and standards that all involved members will adhere to. (this includes mentors, students, advisors, the behind-theoscenes guys , everybody)
[snip] agreed.....
b.. A clear statement of goals, objectives, In fact this should dictate the processes and standards laid down.
[snip] how will this b enforced.
c.. A medium of interaction (this will be taken care of by the PHP groupware)
[snip] this 1 is finalised.....just hav to talk to the list admin abt it..................btw...whose the list admin as of now...??.
d.. We need to decide the roles and responsibilities of the behind-the-scenes guys. For e.g. who will do image building, who will interact with students initially till this gathers steam, who will talk to commercial companies, who will co-ordinate the whole thing.
[snip] me in here......that apart. There r few other like Amol, nd u nd Vishal who have decided to help out. So letz categorize the work nd define responsibilities.
e.. Definitely a list of projects (this again has already been spoken abt by trevor). However, We need deeper project definitions, everybody. While just putting down names is fine, it would be helpful if we define project goals, scope etc right now. If we put this up on the site, we will need to be specific about all projects that we offer.
[snip] agreed...........ofcourse. As of now, i just had 3 projects in mind...........why the heck rn't others comin up with the projects they have in mind...??? Cmoooooooooooon luggers........isn't this enough to wake u up from slumber.......????. We keep answering each others queries from time to time........Why the heck rn't u'll supporting this cause.........???
We also need answers to some questions.
a.. What is the kind of projects the student community wants? In terms of what is vallid as per their courses and institutions?
[snip] hmm.....vyer valid. And for that we can hav a feedback form Shankar.
b.. Which will be out target institutions? We need more than IIT, VJTI and NCST. I think there would be a fair amount of linux and GNU awareness in these places.( this is an assumption- I may be wrong here) We need to throw the net farther.
[snip] k............
c.. How do we approach spreading awareness of GNU in commercial organisations? I think this is the most trickiest of all. We need a <n> point action plan. I am putting some thought to this, and I will send out a mail listing some approaches. Everybody, pls send me your imputs. I will incorporate it and send it to th ML,
[snip] I hope the lug members wake up nd see that we r trying to get some work done for the students of tomorrow........Why don't pple come ahead willingly....??

I think the first bunch of points need to be finalised after we meet. The questions (the 2nd bunch of points) we will need answered now. So, luggerz, let us get cracking and come up with the answers.
