This problem happened since this morning. Have 2 user accounts (in addition to 1 root) on an FC3 system.
Root and 1 user account logs in fine.
Another user account displays strange logging behavior. On typing username and password, it does not say authentication failed, but attempts a login and the screen changes with the hour glass appearing for a second or so.
What is the shell and home dir of this user? can u give the line containing this username from /etc/passwd?
Bash shell. home directory is /home/user/ This is my home machine. On logging remotely from work it worked fine for root. For user it is logged in but gave this message before taking me in. ls/usr/X11R6/bin/xauth: timeout in locking authority file /home/user/.Xauthority
no disk space issues.
user@localhost] emacs .bashrc X11 connection rejected because of wrong authentication. Connection lost to X server `localhost:10.0'
even now I am logged in remotely as the user. but X startup seems to be giving problems.. still trying to fix it without mass deleting or deleting user account.
