6215 is still not (auto) detected. Also gui's like GNOME and KDE (I guess you are using one of them ) aren't the lightest of desktops around.
How does that affect movie players? GNOME/KDE not light as in they require more system RAM. That shouldn't have much to do with VRAM. SiS cards, even if detected (like 6326), are driven by the SVGA X Server, instead of the Accelerated X Server. That's what causes the performance lag. Also, w/o hardware acceleration for video, the CPU speed also comes into picture along with the system load.
I have the same card and making X window run in 16 bit is a huge achievement . Playing movies.... are you sure you want to do this ? ;-)
Why not? My Athlon 600 MHz w/ a 4MB SiS 6326 plays movies fine as long as they're under 640x480 pixels. I run GNOME @ 1024x768x16 resolution. OK, the next one may be hard to digest but it's true - I could even play Quake II thru wine @ 640x480x16 without getting the jerks!
My opinion Movies: Best watched in theatres or on Xing Player ;-)
Echoed, sans the Xing (or your fav. player here) Player.
