First indian servers are expensive. Due to high local bandwidth costs, servers in india cost 3 times of that in USA.
About Economy, i would say the US economist are the best, the Idea of BPO is a win win for them, when u out source , u buy lot of data centre, capable servers and hardware from US, thus fuelling their own home grown economy, and u buy their bandwidth as well. Not mentioning the other benifits for their other companies willing to outsource. So BPO is to stay for longer.
More important, even if you have indian servers and an indian ISP, you use international bandwidth. Last I checked a month ago, no ISP in india provided interconnect to each other. So, you use siffy at home to connect to vsnl email accounts at bom4 server in mumbai, your data goes through some gateway in USA bcause vsnl and siffy refuse to interconnect.
Ill have to check on that, for many a times during latency or other problems faced by ISPs, Indian specific sites like google.co.in yahoo.co.in bazee.com etc are available but the international websites aren't accessible. may be they are in some point interconnected. And some few years before sify had their major bandwidth coming from VSNL, aren't they interconnected then??
