What application(s) are you using? What does "free" say with these applications running?
I have not tried defining a swap of 4GB (have not had the need for it). If the installer(s) limit it to 2GB, then you can define muliple devices for swap (2GB each) and activate them with the same priority number in your /etc/fstab file.
