we were using jdk1.2.2 , further for testing tomcat - got installed jdk1.5 version , where we found some applets doesn't seem to work.
In reverting back to jdk1.2.2 , i am getting the following error with java :

I tried this just now, and didn't face any such problem. My distro is Suse 9.1. How exactly did you "revert" to 1.2.2 ? Did you uninstall cleanly ? Did you reinstall cleanly ?
How could i rectify the problem.
