I saw var/log/messages few dayz back in my server, Today wen i saw it again i came to know that the name was changed to messages.1 , I have not configured logrotate or syslog neither have i restated syslog deamon, Would like to know why was the name changed

logrotate is invoked via cron. FCx, SuSE and derivatives come with pre-programmed scripts. Check the /etc/crontab entries for further clues.
BTW, please wrap your lines.
Till a couple of days ago I had a Intel Pentium 3 processor and a 80 GB hdd installed with FC4 , all was well then . Now I got an AMD Athlon 64 bit 2800+ processor and a new 80 GB hdd . On the new hdd i ceated a ext2 partition and copied the whole FC4 file system to the new partition on the new hdd . Got grub installed , the issue is after the kernel starts booting I get the following message : WARNING Can't access (null) exec of init ((null)) failed : 14 kernel panic HeLppp!! Thanks in Advance

Do you have an identical partition table in your new HDD and did you copy files to the same partition? How does your old hdd work on the new hw? Anyway the better option is what Dinesh suggested, go for a fresh install. No shortcuts. :)

How does your old hdd work on the new hw? Anyway the better option is what Dinesh suggested, go for a fresh install. No shortcuts. :)
Yes certainly it would be better to install the whole of FC4 all over again and copy the /home , but just to see what happens I tried this out . Rony the disk partitions are not the same . I have made the necessary changes in the grub hence it starts uncompressing the kernel .. Is there any other files where i will have to make changes redarding the change in disk partitions.

you need to edit /etc/fstab too.
The grub entries point to the partition that has the kernel but what about your installation itself that is installed for the older partition. I have not done this before so *just for experimenting*

Well about the old hdd I sold my old machine and it went with it (afret being formated ofcours) . I was too excited about the new machine that I did not bother about trying the old hdd on my new machine silly ME .. anyway will look into /etc/fstab and let you know

IMHO, you should create a new partition and copy the /home folder and do a completely new install. The installer will autodetect your hardware install the best (optimized) kernel for your hardware...

IMHO, you should create a new partition and copy the /home folder and do a completely new install. The installer will autodetect your hardware install the best (optimized) kernel for your hardware...
I agree with Dinesh, Your HW has changed from 32 bit to 64 bit, your disk geometry has changed. I suggest a 64 bit Linux. I have 64 bit Debian Sarge DVDs (courtesy Dinesh Shah that I can pass on to you - contact me off list if interested).
However, if you want to tinker around then go for an AMD64 optimized kernel and more importantly with an initrd customized with device drivers for the AMD64 mobo.

Oracle DBAs or Linux system administrators whose job it is to point and click and install Oracle, and take backups as directed by the DBA? DBAs do make a lot of money, and a good DBA is easily worth that. A junior Linux system administrator, OTOH, is cheap (unless this is a clued geek, in which case you promote him/her to senior admin).

The advertisment was for a junior system administrator who was familiar with Linux and Oracle installation.
The 150K INR/mth is for an Oracle DBA with a few years of experience (four to five at least, generally).

Why work for money when you can work for love? Love of free software that is. There is nothing that stops you from hacking free software while you're in college. I did it, and many other guys did it. We made Rs.0 per month and it felt great. We also made hundreds of downloads a month, loads of contacts, got our names recognised and got a few thank yous, which IMO is worth far more than a 150K bank balance.
