[ILUG-BOM] Looking for recommendation -- Building Highly Scalable Standalone Linux Server

Hi There. I am looking for some hard core technical documentation and articles which explains how to build a highly scalable standalone linux server for hosting purposes. It will be running a combination of Billing Software, Network Monitoring, Security (some form of encryption), Web Server, Database (mysql and postgres) which could lead to heavy usage. I know certain queries can be googled but what I am really interested in is people's recommendation with pointers that talk about lessons learned from folks who have built heavy duty servers (w/ storage requirements, raid, ram, processors..etc) for a data center environment. This information will be extremely valuable to my team. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Regards, Virendra

Hi Friends, I have to manipulate ( rotate ) a tiff file having 5600 x 6600 pixels. For that I created a pixbuf from file Glib::RefPtr<Gdk::Pixbuf> m_ppixBuf; m_ppixBuf = Gdk::Pixbuf::create_from_file(filename ); int lHeight = m_ppixBuf->get_height(); int lWidth = m_ppixBuf->get_width(); int lRotatedRowStride = m_ppixBuf->get_rowstride(); Then collected data in a local variable, gchar* pixdata = m_ppixBuf->get_pixels(); Allocating equivalent memory to one temporary variable gchar* tmpdata = (char *) malloc( lHeight * lWidth * lNo_of_channels); Then coying pixels one by one from source to target using memcpy function. // case 90 degree : for(j = 0, k = (lHeight-1); j < lHeight; j++, k--) { for(i = 0; i < lWidth; i++) { memcpy(&tmpmap[i * lRotatedRowStride + k * iNo_of_Channel], &bitmap[j * lRowstride + i * iNo_of_Channel], iNo_of_Channel); } } This code works fine , but takes lot of time to rotate large image. Is there any other way to make this operation faster? Also I want to save modified pixbuf in "tiff" file, but GDK library allows me to save only in PNG and JPEG format. How will I save it in tiff format? If anyone knows please help me. Thanks, Ramachandra

Dear Luggers, I'm one of the newest and "ne= wbiest" member of this mailing list. Me and a couple of my friends hav= e JUST entered the world of open source OS. We are currently doing a Red Ha= t 9.0 course from their official training centre in Andheri. &n= bsp; I have been following this mailing list for just about a couple= of weeks now. 98% of the stuff mentioned here goes "bouncer" to = me. But nonetheless, we would still like to come and see what the ILUG meet= ings are all about. Is it okay to do so? I'm asking specifica= lly because unlike Rajeev, who has come down from Banglore, we were never a= ctive memebers of ILUG, neither do we posses the strong technical know-how on Linux that u guys posses. [ILUG-BOM](QUERY)LDAP Authentication

Hi friends, I am facing the foollowing problem with LDAP based authentication. Let me explain about it. I am in the first phace and so only a single machine is acting as client. The domain name which I am using is dc=it,dc=iitb,dc=ac,dc=in And in the client side I configued the authentication part for LDAP based authentication. ( ie LDAP server as 10.129.50.37 -which is the ip of my server Base dn as dc=it,dc=iitb,dc=ac,dc=in ) Using the migration tool, I migrated the accouts from the client to server and it is comimg under ou=People subtree in the LDAP tree. Then I deleted all other accounts( root, postgres etc. ) from the LDAP tree and only one guest account of the client I kept there. Then I removed the guest user from the client and tried to login to that with the assumption that I can login through the LDAP. But it is not allowing me for that and the usual invalid username or password mesaage is what I am getting. So friends, Is there anything wrong in what I am doing ? or Is there something more I have to do ? For those interested: Filo is a bootloader which loads boot images from local filesystem, without help from legacy BIOS services. No more bootloader, disk swapping, 1024 cylinders problemo. Expected usage is to flash it into the BIOS ROM together with LinuxBIOS. http://te.to/~ts1/filo/

[ILUG-BOM][OT]: Remote Network Monitoring Expertise

Hi there, Just wondering if anyone on this forum could possibly point me to the right team who can provide reliable remote LAN/WAN/VOIP...etc monitoring services for company's critical intranet data (access, distribution, and core) in order to help them meet five nines (99.999) percent availability. I'm currently looking for teams who can provide (1) bandwidth availability (2) measure availability and identify outages daily, monthly, quarterly and yearly (3) outage cause analysis report to prevent similar outages (4) alert notification via pager and email (5) capacity planning (6) periodically audit router and switch configuration for consistency along w/ tactical on-call 24x7x365 support coverage via the monitoring tool(s). These are some key points that I'm looking at a team to provide, although there's a list of high availability point I like to discuss about. I'm open for suggestions.
