Greetings,
I tried Opera 7.10 on RedHat Linux 8.0 and found it the best browser for
my low end comp. It is faster than Galeon, does not have a rendering as
good as Mozilla engine but does show pages pretty well (and did I forget to
tell fast). A mail client integrated into the browser does help a little
bit to speed up the work. I am sharing this with you for the only reason
that one can show that even on GNU systems there are a few softwares that
may not be opensource and can help companies to make money by creating
softwares for GNU systems.
Bye.

I guess most hackers are artistically inclined. Most people I encounter are
into either music or fine arts.History or Literature too.

Hi
I was looking to download the SEI's Perspective on Open Source Software from
sei.cmu.edu, but looks like there's some routing problem or some such. Also,
wayback machine on archive.org did'nt seem to list it....If anyone has a copy
of this file, can you please mail it to me offlist? this one is like ~400K and
published sometime late 2001.
I believe tht you havent read the whole article, if u would have though you
prolly would hav got the sarcasm
here are some snippets frm the article
---Hacker Software---
Popular hacker software includes "Comet Cursor", "Bonzi Buddy" and "Flash".
(Everyone knows what they are)
---AMD Processors--- (point no 3)
If your son has requested a new "processor" from a company called "AMD",
this is genuine cause for alarm. AMD is a third-world based company who make
inferior, "knock-off" copies of American processor chips. They use child
labor extensively in their third world sweatshops, and they deliberately
disable the security features that American processor makers, such as Intel,
use to prevent hacking. AMD chips are never sold in stores, and you will
most likely be told that you have to order them from internet sites. Do not
buy this chip! This is one request that you must refuse your son, if you are
to have any hope of raising him well.
It's a U.S based company
--- Does your son use Quake? --- Point No. 6
Quake is an online virtual reality used by hackers. It is a popular meeting
place and training ground, where they discuss hacking and train in the use
of various firearms.
(LOL.. You Be the Judge)
--- Is your son obsessed with lunix--- point No. 8
8. Is your son obsessed with "Lunix"?
BSD, Lunix, Debian and Mandrake are all versions of an illegal hacker
operation system, invented by a Soviet computer hacker named Linyos
Torovoltos, before the Russians lost the Cold War. It is based on a program
called "xenix", which was written by Microsoft for the US government. These
programs are used by hackers to break into other people's computer systems
to steal credit card numbers. They may also be used to break into people's
stereos to steal their music, using the "mp3" program. Torovoltos is a
notorious hacker, responsible for writing many hacker programs, such as
"telnet", which is used by hackers to connect to machines on the internet
without using a telephone.
(Notice how he has deliberately changed the name to linyos torovoltos... the
actual name is easier to remember ;)
and about breaking into Stereos is concerned all i can say is WOW!! )
--- Appearance change--- point 9
9. Has your son radically changed his appearance?
If your son has undergone a sudden change in his style of dress, you may
have a hacker on your hands. Hackers tend to dress in bright, day-glo
colors. They may wear baggy pants, bright colored shirts and spiky hair dyed
in bright colors to match their clothes. They may take to carrying
"glow-sticks" and some wear pacifiers around their necks. (I have no idea
why they do this)
( If thats the new dress code maybe i'm outdated :D )
10. --- academics --- point 10
If your son is failing courses in school, or performing poorly on sports
teams, he may be involved in a hacking group, such as the infamous "Otaku"
hacker association. Excessive time spent on the computer, communicating with
his fellow hackers may cause temporary damage to the eyes and brain, from
the electromagnetic radiation. This will cause his marks to slip
dramatically, particularly in difficult subjects such as Math, and
Chemistry.
(Math and Chemestry are difficult anyways even he has mentioned it.. hmmm
maybe i sould consider joining Otaku :p)

Hi,
Yesterday I tried installing PCQuest Linux 8.0 on my new Athlon XP 1800Mhz
system, with A7N266VM Asus mobo.(Thanks to some of you who advised me to use
Athlon over Celeron!).
Now...
When the installer(anaconda) starts, it probes the hardware..it displays
"unable to probe monitor" & after emitting a couple of lines the system
hangs.
Using the options "Linux noprobe" or linux skipddc" as suggested doesnt skip
the probe, & the same problem repeats again. I also trie the "linux rescue"
option . Some of you have installed the PCQuest Linux 8.0. Maybe you can
advise me...
Thanks,
--Royce.
