Hello All,
I am using CDrecord software version 1.10 to write my CDs. I found that
it writes
the CD too slow. I am using Lite-on external USB CD-Writer. I
explicitly specified
the speed by using the speed option to 40x. But that doesn't help. I
tried with the same
media and writer on my Windows machine with similar configuration and it
writes it
much faster.(It took only 4 minutes on Windows but 11 minutes on Linux).
Is it an issue with CDRecord ? Is there any other Cdrecording software on
Linux that will write it faster ?

Morning Madhav,
Your ethusiasm regards the same is highly appreciated
and i assure you that is has been seen in good stead.
With regards to the expenses and sponsorship as
highlighted by you i would earnestly suggest that you
discuss the same with your peers at the upcomign
meeting.
Very simple Madhav.....in this world everything works
based on a simple philosophy of demand and supply.
You can lead 10 horses to the river but cant force
even one of them to drink.
The way i look at it Madhav, it makes no sense to
take up the mantle alone if there is no vociferous
support. I would earnestly suggest that we scale down
the size of the event and lets have a 2 day joint
workshop between bombay-goa linux user groups.
Me will have the same presented to the bombay lug and
line up speakers for the next month. Feb 21-22nd can
be a good time to hold this workshop. Lets have a
target of 15 speakers spread over 2 days and arrange
the same between bomba-goa lugs. The workshop would be
open to all over the country with a small entrance fee
of 200-300 towards meeting the expenses of
food/eatables.
This i can assure you will work without any
sponsorship and won't require you to cry out hoarse.
Get this moving and once we can pat ourself on the
back for such small events like this Madhav i can
assure you the rest will fall in place.

Yeap. It does require another parameter as kernel name:
Correct command was /sbin/mkinitrd -f -v /boot/initrd-2.4.18-27.7.x.img 2.4.18-27.7.x
After lots of googling i havent been able to come to any correct result yet. I have already tried removing initrd from grub.conf and it still does not work.
Thanks for the help and any further help would be gr8.

Hi Everyone,
I have installed RHES 2.1 installed on my machine, which comes by default
with kernel-2.4.9-e.24. It works well. I recently upgraded to kernel
2.4.18-27.7.x
using kernel RPM as follows:
rpm -ivh kernel-2.4.18-27.7.x.i686.rpm
/sbin/mkinitrd -f -v /boot/initrd-2.4.18-27.7.x
I am using grub as the bootloader and it has following configuration for
booting into new kernel:
title Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-27.7.x)
root (hd0,0)
kernel /vmlinuz-2.4.18-27.7.x ro root=/dev/hda3
initrd /initrd-2.4.18-27.7.x.img
When i boot into new kernel i get following error:
pivotroot: pivot_root(/sysroot, /sysroot/initrd) failed: 2
Freeing unused kernel memory: 160k free
Kernel panic: No init found. Try passing init= option to kernel.
Thing to note. I can still boot to older kernel and works well.
Any one any ideas what could be the problem in here? Any help on the matter
will be appreciated.
Thanks and Regards,
Nikunj
[snip]
For compiling with SSL support i downloaded and installed the
ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/security/nss/releases/NSS_3_8_RTM/src…
nss packages as told in the FAQ of gaim.
Then i configured it with command
./configure --with-nspr-includes=/nss-3.8/mozilla/nsprpub/pr/include/
--with-nspr-libs=/usr/lib/
--with-nss-includes=/nss-3.8/mozilla/security/nss/lib/nss/
--with-nss-libs=/usr/lib/
[snip]
try not giving the end slash e.g
--with-nss-libs=/usr/lib
another thing. try using the gnutls library instead of nss, which should be available as a direct rpm or srpm atleast from www.gnutls.org
hope that helped,
