image merging tool in linux

hi, i am looking for image merging software in linux (preferebly command line). i have a very big print which i have scanned into pieces (scanner size was not sufficient to scan at one go). i tried google, but no luck. tried gimp but it will have to do it manually i guess. but manually merging them border to border is not possible (due to insufficient RAM- even 2Gb is not enough, it stalls for some time even for a small movement of any image). so it would be nice, simply to feed these images to a software and let it take whatever time to do the job. the similar software is present in many digital cameras, to be used to make panorama images. any help is badly needed. thanks.

For newbies:(even i am one!!!) I have been using FC4 since last 4 months. Setting up multimedia in it is very easy. just follow the instructions at http://stanton-finley.net/fedora_core_4_installation_notes.html or also http://fedorafaq.org/ If you have a decent internet connection (mine was 25kbps pacenet connection then) you can get set it up in just under two hours (it took me 4 hrs!!) -- The Future is Open...The Future is LINUX

Email Archival Problem !!!!

Hello everybody, This is my first post to this group. I hav a problem concerning the archival of emails. I hav been assigned a project to develop a solution to archive emails on a HP-UX system. So, Ihav started work on it on my RedHat Fedora Core 1 system, since I don't hav an HP-UX box. I am trying to test some opensource solutions and take help from them. Some of these are Aemail, Powermail, mairix etc. Some issues in front of me are : 1. I want all of u, who can help, to come forward and suggest ur own approach to this problem of email archival. 2. I am trying to test both Powermail and Aemail, available at the GNU website, but i am having problem making them run. a)In case of Aemail, I am having trouble configuring and administering PostgreSQl for using with Aemail. b)In case of Powermail, I am having trouble configuring Powermail to interact with MySQL in the correct manner. 3)Can anyone of u suggest ant other opensource solutions to handle the problem of email archival? 4) I am currently developing a solution of my own where i use Archmbox, another opensource product under GPL, to archive mails from an mbox file and compress it. then i encrypt it and send it over to a storage server. Before archival, all the emails are indexed on the basis of their date, sender and subject in a simple text file. And whenever the person wants to restore the archived email, he can search the indexfile to find the compressed file which contains the particular email.So then it can be downloaded from the storage server ( maye an ftp server) and then decomressed, decrypted to get the original mail back. can u ppl suggest any improvments in this plan of action? or whether a database can be used, if yes, where? with regards, sushant gulati __________________________________ Yahoo! FTP automation & File Sharing

hi everybody, The question i want to ask is how can i automate ftp login and uploading and downloading of files using VSFTP on Linux, using shell scripts? In other words, can explicit login and typing of username password be avoided by using shell scripts in any way to login to a ftp server. can uploading and downloading of files be automated by the shell scripts in any way? Also can anyone suggest me some alternative approach where ftp's explicit login be avoided and if there is some other opensource products like rsync etc . Can they match ftp in functionality? Boot Problem.

Hi All I had a Redhat Enterprise 4 ES, running on my system and lately i installed a fedora 4, Now i am not able to boot back to Redhat. Here is what i did~ Redhat -OS /boot -> hda1 / -hda2 Swap ->hda3 Fedora Core4 -OS / -> hda4 Uses the same swap And presently Fedora is bootable so i mount Redhat boot hda1 and copy all the main files (vmlinuz, SystemMap, initrd and config) files on to the /boot directory of Fedora Boot directory inside directory called REDHAT. Added title here the /boot/redhat/vmlinuz-EL (path) ro /dev/hda4 Initrd here.../boot/redhat/initrd.El And it boots up and detects everything then Mounting root system kjournald starting ext3-fs:mounted filesystem mount:error 2 mounting none Switching to new root Warning: can't access (null) exec of init ((null)) failed!!!:14 umount /initrd/dev failed:2 Kernel panic Does anybody has a working fedora and redhat-el and why is that grub now doesn't detect the other OS,would this be due to SELINUX? ncftp configuration

Hello everybody, Sorry to bother you with this trivial problem, but as it goes, I am experiencing problem using ncftp on my RedHat Fedora core 1 system. When I checked, it had ncftp preinstalled. And when i type "ncftp 192.168.10.1" at the command prompt(where 192.168.10.1 is the IP of the host where i wanted to log in), it connects successfully and displays the ftp prompt. Now the problem is : 1) When i type ls it shows /pub and then i cannot create a directory there or cannot upload, download files. A permission denied error is shown. 2)When i try logging into ftp from the shell prompt by typing "ncftp 192.168.10.1 -u root -p XXXX", where root and XXXX are the username and 3) Actually, I need am very new to the concept of ncftp, can u suggest any resources other than ncftp documentation, where i can learn how to configure the ftp service. My project is on email archival, and the all the work in the project is complete except the ncftp portion. what i need is to build a number of user accounts, with certain usernames and passwords and then i need to write shell scripts to automate the uploading and downloading of files. If the hardware vendor does _not_ provide drivers or specs to write the drivers then no matter what Linux distro you use, you will not be able to connect to the 502t on the USB port. Ask the vendor for drivers; suggest you write about your dilemma to: K. R. Naik MD/CEO, DLink India Ltd.
