hi saswata/amish, Agreed the no. of clients would depend on the chip and other stuff. This solution is only possible with win3k right. Actually speakin in the current system i ran multi user tally with wine, but over time the data got corrupt again and again., so then switched to vmware. Do you guys have any more ideas other thn win3k server ?

query rgd linux kernel compilation

Hi, I have a problem regarding kernel re-compilation. I am trying to use SLES over intel platform servers with SCSI HDD. This server has got 4 CPU's and around 1 GB RAM. I have this application which I am trying to install, the documentation of which mentions linux kernel to be in non-smp mode.By default SLES ,whenever it detects more than 1 CPU goes into smp mode of kernel. When I am trying to reinstall the kernel by passing parameter "nosmp" the server smoothly goes through the entire installation, but after the final reboot, goes into kernel panic. Initially I though that I am choosing the wrong filesystem for /boot, but later on I tried with ext2 and resierfs to find the same end result. worst part is that if I try to boot this very system(installed with nosmp) with a bootable cd, it boots, shows all the partitions as they were created during the installation. Now things that I need to know from you people 1. what are the right parameters to be passed when installing kernel without SMP, is nosmp the only paramter or do I need to specify maxcpu also? 2. when I give a specific paramter to the kernel installation, does it ignore other default parameters (like say reiserfs modules, scsi modules, ethernet modules). 3. what is the difference between installing a module into the kernel and installing a module outside kernel (if there is anything like that ) thanks in advance Chirag __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!? Last week purchased an IBM T42 2372K1A for another friend. It comes with winxp "professional" preinstalled. A bit of work with QTparted and debian sarge was roaring. It lacks gprs / cdma connectivity hardware. So an external phone will have to be used. The GSM/CDMA PCMCIA cards are ridiculously priced (Rs.15K from tata). Any ideas? rgds jtd
