>Yes sameer you're on top of the problem :). Try creating a symlink /usr/src/linux-2.6.xx to your kernel.
Thanks Dinesh, I would try to create a sym link as you have mentioned but can you please explain about how to overwrite the present hard link. Because unless it is overwirtten the problem won't be solved. (This is as far as I know ) The hard link would have a higher priority over the softer one.
Thanks once again

Hi
Has anyone managed to get Tally 7.2 to work on Debian? I got an eval copy from
Software@work Pvt. Ltd.
The requirement was RH 7.2 and Gnome Desktop. I installed Gnome Desktop and it
installed without any hick-up in /usr/tally
However, when I run the executable it says:
./tally72: error while loading shared libraries: libssl.so.4: cannot open
shared object file: No such file or directory
Any ideas on where to get libssl.so.4? Tried APT-CACHE search... no joy...
Regards
Rishi

One BIG difference with GNU/linux (that includes applications) you have
access to the code so if you are in trouble u CAN correct things.
Further every time (and that is at least fifteen times with different
application) I mailed a developer i got a response with useful technical
inputs which helped resolve the problem within a day. No stupid mails
about You are a valued idiot and our idiots are looking into the problem
and we will get back to you when the next release treadmill starts
rolling.

Eh!. I have been running Debian as root for years havent had a problem
ever. And the box is connected 24/7. (Ofcourse this is quite a nasty
thing to do) But then most of my ports are turned off and firewalled
etc. etc.

If you plan to get support better than the kind stated above it will
cost you a fortune and is unlikely to be available unless you have
100+ multi location setup.
Factoring these costs with meticulous SLAs is the key to your costing.
The microserfs very nicely forget about SLAs when costing but
suddenly remember them when signing up MCs.
Could not agree more with the rest of the mail.
Finally it is about really understanding who exactly is responsible
for the stuff that resides on your box. Quite contrary to what M$
say in the press, they absolve themselves of everything and charge
you a fat packet in the bargain. Strangely enough even the DOD
(USA) software certification program fails completely to certify
key aspects of closed software. The situation is being rectified
much to the dislike of fiends like Greenhills, M$ etc..
Cant find the relevant links.

Hi all,
I am using Hathway broadband internet connection(256kbps) on my Debian (Sarge) machine.
I use KDE3.3 desktop & use knetload to monitor network traffic, rate of connection(kbps),etc. Also I have installed firewall using "firestarter". The public access is disabled to all services.
Whenever I start the modem, knetload shows non-stop incoming data (about 5-10 kbps). However, there is no outgoing data. I wonder from where this data is coming.
I have closed almost all services on my machine. See output of "netstat" below-

Can anybody suggest casue of this influx & how to control it?

Well thanks for your inputs Mr. Rajeev. I did try to compile the driver (as a root) by specifying the kernel source directory with LINUX_DIR=/usr/src/linux-2.6.zz. and the modules directory as MODULE_DIR=/lib/modules/2.6.zz and it almost seemed to work but once again it looks like there is another file from the same scripts/mod dir which is missing. The error given this time was as follows
************************************************************************
Building modules, stage 2.
make -rR -f /usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24/scripts/Makefile.modpost
scripts/mod/modpost -m -i /usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24/Module.symvers -s /dev/null /home/galbotrix/qc-usb-messenger-0.8/quickcam.o
/bin/sh: scripts/mod/modpost: No such file or directory
make[2]: *** [__modpost] Error 127
make[1]: *** [modules] Error 2
make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.8-24'
make: *** [quickcam.ko] Error 2

Did you get any error messages above?

Just had another thought, as I was going through the README.txt file of the driver it said that the build dir in /lib/modules/2.6.xx should be a link to the kernel source i.e /usr/src/linux-2.6.xx. But the the link in my case shows that build directory is hard linked with /usr/src/linux-2.6.xx-obj/i386/default directory. I tried to change this link but despite being root its not allowing me a hard link change. Can you or anybody please tell me how to do the changeover, any other inputs are welcome as well.
Thanks

You can install RTLinux on debain or ubuntu too...
just do
# sudo apt-get install rtlinux
or search synaptic for rtlinux
sources.list is mostly updated with repos.
