Linux Asia, New Delhi

Me and a couple of friends are planning to attend the 3-day LinuxAsia conference and expo in New Delhi. Are there any more people on the LUG who are planning to go? bug in nautilius ?

I thought I'd confirm with seniors here before filing a new bug in Nautilius. I took a 8-sec avi format video in today's session by Mark S at IIT. I tried to check its size via right-click->Properties in File Browser. Result: The window closed & opened my home folder again. Notes: The file was in my home folder. I moved it to a subdir & tried same action. The result was the same i.e. a new file browser opened again with my home folder. I have opened the file under the other evil OS & hence it is not corrupted. The file is attached. Regards, Mohan S N

Nmap

Hi i use internet from behind a proxy server. I want to use nmap to scan some external hosts but iam not able to do that. It resolves the ip address but fails to access them reporting that the host may be down. I tried pinging the hosts but that also doesnt work My env variable has the followinf format http_proxy=username:secret@proxy.com:80 is it because my proxy is blocking icmp packets.. is there someway i can verify that?? thanks -- Puneet

Mark Shuttleworth meets the lug

Help, IF U COULD (Internet Sharing)

hello linux fans, i have a linux machine with redHat 9 installed with squid proxy working as SERVER and the CLIENT linux machines use this proxy server to connect to internet. But i would like the CLIENT machines to directly connect to Internet without any proxy settings in web -browser. i used the command netconfig and gave the following. gateway : Servers loacal ip DNS server : ISP's dns server ip but after all these settings, i was not able to connect to internet please HELP, if u could. bi s paul

[OT] PPPoE login failure - DLink 502t TriBand modem

I have a small "expect" script to login in to the modem and reboot the unit @ 08:00 and 00:00 hours. This was working fine up until a few weeks ago. Now, after a reboot (thru the expect script) the unit is unable to login to the MTNL network. I keep getting PPPoE login failure. In such case, I have had to open a trouble ticket and typically within 12-18 hours the unit is able to login successfully. Not sure if MTNL really did something or the problem auto corrected itself :( In both scenarios, the web interface "Status>ADSL" does display the "Line State" as connected. I first reset the unit to factory settings and reprogrammed my custom settings. That did not help. Then I reflashed the firmware on the unit and reprogrammed my custom settings - no help. I am wondering if I have a flaky modem and how to prove it. Talking to MTNL is of no help. According to them, if all the LEDs are on then my modem is good.
