possibly a bug in ubuntu

Hi all I wanted to check before filing a bug report for ubuntu. Intermittently, i.e. about twice in five sessions, the whole UI boats up by about 1.5 to 2 times. This has become more frequent in 6.06 . This is a serious usability issue, as important configuration dialogs such users-admin are clipped at the bottom. This is observed in both gnome & kde. This has been an issue since the time of 5.04 However if this were a wide-spread issue, it would have probably been fixed by now. Hence, i am hesitating to raise a bug for the same. Please advise. This a link to a review of vista beta with a humongous amount of screenshots. http://www.tomshardware.com/2006/05/31/windows_vista/ I am posting this link here coz i was shocked to find the extent of just simple plain copying of features that has been done in internet exploere 7. It borrows tabbed browsing, rss feed reader, explicit mgmt of add ons.. list is endless. Is this right?? Are they required to acknowledge it?? under some license clause of firefox. Coz they will now make glitzy videos demonstarting something thats been there for ages in mozilla and firefox. -- Puneet

Online petition to make HDFC Mozilla friendly

Dear Linuxers, I have created an online petition with an aim to persuade HDFC bank and its associate www.hdfcsec.com to become more receptable to open source software. At present HDFC's tradiing site- www.hdfcsec.com can only be accessed by Internet Explorer with no support at all extended to Mozilla Firefox or Opera. This forces a lot of open source enthusiasts to keep IE on their PCs or hit cybercafes to access their online trading accounts. Hopefully this petition with some help from the open source community will result in HDFC becoming more responsive to the needs of the growing open source community in the country. But I got a message from the list saying : Is being held until the list moderator can review it for approval.The reason it is being held: Message has implicit destination Can someone tell me what this means ? Triband problems

Just installed Linspire on a partition. I am unable to stay connected using MTNL's Triband for long though i have no such problems when using an old GNOME live CD. I am therefore forced to switch back to Windows XP to get online. Shiv Kumar

Checking MTNL broadband usage using ifconfig or logs

Dear List, I am using the MTNL Triband broadband service with Debian Sarge. I connect to the modem using DHCP, and get on and off by using /etc/init.d/networking (start|stop) Now, I am looking for an unobtrusive way of measuring how many bytes I use up every session, especially as I find the MTNL account check very unreliable. I heard that the TX bytes and RX bytes are the correct indicators in the output of /sbin/ifconfig eth0. I wanted to know whether noting these down is a measure of how much I have used in that session. Also, I wanted to know whether these details are logged elsewhere on my PC, in some file, so that I can extract the details from that file. (It can be assumed that I connect to the internet only from Sarge). Thank you. Aparna

Hi I use suse super and i experimented a bit and found out that using a flashdisk for a swap partition significantly improves performance. +set /cat/proc/sys/vm/swappiness a high value like 80 a must try . Steven -- Life would have been a lot more easier if we could look at the source code.
