I missed all the threads last week. Mr. Nagarjuna's post about the vrms utility was a good one, though. Configuring ADSL Internet (MTNL-Tri-Band) on FC2 Linux ..

I ugrently need help for installing the Internet on my Linux box. I need it very urgently for my projects.. I am ready to pay a for the support. I am using Fedora core 2 Linux... I have tried all options for support from MTNL but all futile.. I am located at Belapur-CBD. Please help me ! onkar

[OT][CAUTION] Dell Laptop Battery Issue.

Hello All, This is in public interest so I hope the list admins don't block this. In today's Times of India 17th Aug., there is an writeup on page 27 called "Not just laptops, phones can burn too". Here the author suggests that if they find that their Dell laptop has the suspect battery, then remove it from the laptop and use the laptop on mains power. IMHO feel that powering the laptop without a battery could cause permanent DAMAGE to it. Any device that uses a rechargable battery has a charger that has an output voltage thats higher than the battery level. The battery acts as a load resistance and limits the maximum voltage to its maximum charge level. In the abscence of a battery, the full voltage of the charger gets kicked into the device's ass and that damages the circuit inside. This applies to mobiles and cordlesses too. So if you love your laptop or mobile, please do not power it without a battery. If anyone has any *technical* input regarding this matter then post your replies or else please don't bomb this thread either from land or outer space nor treat it like a chai tapri or an Irani hotel for off tangent discussions. How to connect to the Internet using motorola sb5101 cable modem in fc5

Hi I'm new to linux. I have installed FC5 a day ago and want to connect to the internet. My service provider is Hathway Cable Internet and i connect windows xp to the internet using Motorola SB5101 cable modem provided by hathway. If anyone could tell me in details how to connect FC5 to the internet. Diverted Topic - RMS in Mumbai

Isnt it amazing how this groups takes all things off on a tangent and makes the thread loose its original purpose ? If anyone were to use the search engine to find out when RMS will be here and where he will meet, he will be totally lost. I have been ignoring the thread completely (just delete it when mails come) without a second look. I just hope no further information on RMS's schedule has been provided somewhere lurking among all the hot-air bags talking of licensing. In fact, it has also gone to why new planets are being added to our solar system !!!! For those who want to know, the last information I managed to get is that RMS will be giving a public lecture on Sunday 27th August 2006 at Patkar Hall, Churchgate. The time has not been given yet. Dr. Nagarjuna, I hope, will give the final time in a separate thread and with a separate subject heading or I atleast, will not know about it. Regards Saswata

adding swap to existing install

I am going to install Oracle XE on Ubuntu, for which I require 1 GB of swap. I already have 512 MB of swap space. I intend to add a 1GB swap partition. Can I do it to an xisting install? Having done that, I have missed my lunch and I am in no mood to participate in this RMS vs. ESR, FSD vs. OSD, "Debarshi is non-sensical" debate any more. I would rather invest my time in writing some usefull code. People who just want to continue the discussion please carry one, but I am not making any replies to questions directed at me.
