hi,
i have got an internal modem, and it works fine on my comp [got drivers
etc for linux].
now i want to install it in a lab comp, and that comp is really old [had
to take apart three junk PCs to assemble one working one, and still not
sure if everything is fine].
neways, there are two free pci ports and i have tried the modem on both.
the problem is: i am expecting linux to detect the device atleast, and
show it in lspci/cat /proc/pci etc. but it isnt. i remember harddrake
showing a red entry for the modem [as winmodem] when i had not installed
the drivers on my PC, but here it just says "cant load serial module" when
starting up and doesnt show any modem.
i tried changing bios settings to do the pnp stuff itself with autmatic
setting. but despite everything lspci is not showing the modem :((
its eating up a lot of my time, and got to get this working before i cud
proceed. please let me know if u have ideas on how to deal with this.
tia,
