Hi, Sorry for bugging you again. Muktware will complete one year in April. It's an achievement for us, especially for me as after moving from India, and quitting LFY, it was a challenge for me to stay connected to the FOSS world and continue to contribute in the manner I could -- writing and publication. Today Muktware is a well known online publication. Thanks to a lot of LUG members who have been guiding me through this. To celebrate one year, we are increasing the payment per-article. Now we pay Rs 1,000 or US$ 20 per article. The minimum length is 750 words. We are inviting reviews of OpenSuse 11.4. Gnome 3 and other latest distros. We are also inviting columns on contemporary issues. Please help me continue this FOSS journey. PS: We are based out of Brussels, Belgium. autocad alternative in linux

I finally seem to have come across a viable alternative to autocad for linux. Its called bricscad and seems to be much much faster in linux/ubuntu. I have given it to some other people for evaluation purposes but it looks to finally help engg companies and technically minded people to now switch over more easily to linux. Its not free but still much affordable.--they say its one 15th the cost of autocad. Only Tally remains a barrier for the switchover from windows to linux for the general user at the small business office now--hopefully some alternative software for linux will soon come out so as to make the transition painless. hi, here are the specs for an application a company I consult with wants to build, anyone interested in joining to build/consult on this please come forward. They will pay. specs: a. Music archive (presently containing about 4000 hours of classical carnatic music, which will grow to about 10000 hours (about 1TB of disk space)) - mp3 format b. Music can be accessed by artist, composer, raga, tala, album etc (the usual metadata) c. Access through 20 touchscreen kiosks with headsets (PCs with touch screen monitors) connected to the server d. Admin facility at the backend to organize, index, sequence etc e. Touchscreen interface for the listener to choose tracks/albums by various metatags a,b and d can be done using django or some such framework. where in India can one find wimax antennas and equipment?

Hi There is a school in a remote location and I was wondering if that location could be connected via wimax or wireless mesh networking at a reasonable cost. The service provider there is asking too much money upfront for speeds as low as 2Mbps. Is there a possibility of a layman/do it yourself type to set up a wimax network for them so as to access the internet easily? Which are the unregulated frequencies for wimax/wimesh and which equipments would be needed? Can anybody help? At the Pabal school (vigyanashram.com) some company from bangalore had setup a communication link but unfortunately it was not sustainable maybe due to financial or logistic problems or it happenned when the technology was raw. USB Mobile Broadband Service

Hi, How do we address the issues of making it work the latest chipset provided by the Service Provider to make it work on Ubuntu Desktops. I mean whenever there is a new USB Mobile Broadband Service chipset available in Market how do we make them work in Ubuntu. Do i need to update my Desktop to the latest release every time ? For example : I use Tata Photon + with EC1260 chipset which works in Ubuntu 10.10 but when i try to use the latest Tata Photon + with EC152 chipset it does not work out of the box. Scientific Linux 6.0 is based on RHEL 6.0 with add-ons for scientific computing. FWIW, the Admin tools etc. are pretty much the same as in RHEL. There is no firm date for CentOS 6.0 yet; so you if you want to see what is in RHEL 6.0 (and don't have subscription) you can try this distro to get your hands wet. Hello, I regularly use 'finnix' as a bootable CD to get a root command prompt with lots of utilities for system maintainence. This time the latest version 101 was downloaded and burned. Along with the usual boot time utilities, I found a nice option called 'Hardware Detection Tool'. This is very useful to get details about your motherboard, chips, devices etc. without opening your machine. Very quick and handy. ARM cross-compiling issues

Namaskar: I have only used the Keil compiler for arm development before. Now I am trying to use the arm-gcc. I got this BlinkingLed program with my Olimex development board. I have been trying to compile it with the arm-gcc cross compiler from codesourcery as well as the one provided by redhat. The zip file which contains the sources as well as the errors for their respective compilations can be found here:- https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B36jlLaq9jMFMzMwMWQ5YTctZTk0YS00ZDdmLTgzMG… I can't make head or tail of the error messages thrown by the redhat cross-compiler. Please help me debug. Also I want to cross compile the Linux Kernel for ARM. WindowXp PHP MySQL Connectivity Problem

Hi all, On one of my Windows XP system I am unable to connect to mysql from php script. I am able to login to mysql server from the command line as well as mysql console provided by WAMP 2.0 but from php script mysql_connect() function is always failing. I have tested WAMP 2.0 and three versions of EasyPHP but in each case I am facing the same problem. Even phpMyAdmin is not being starting on this system. I have also followed the steps mentioned on the page http://forge.mysql.com/wiki/Error2003-CantConnectToMySQLServer but of no use. Can any one give me clue for reason behind this type of problem? "GSM encryption comes in four flavours: A5/0 is no encryption at all, and is the standard for GSM devices shipped to countries the distributors don't like all that much; A5/1 is the fairly robust 'default' encryption implementation used in the EU and the USA; A5/2 is a weakened version of A5/1 offered to countries the distributors have no strong feelings about but which the government may want to keep its eye on; A5/3 is a newcomer to the scene, offering a more robust scheme than A5/1 but currently not implemented for anyone who doesn't work for a three-letter-agency." I am curious to know, what security do we use in India? I could not get exact details on the net.
