[OT] Top 10 questions Newbies should never ask

Hi! I have compiled a list of TOP 10 questions Newbies should NEVER ask on a glug list. Additions welcome ;) 1. Who is RMS ?? And who is ESR ??? Why do these people have weird names? 2. OK I've got the Linux CD's. But heck, I can't find any setup.exe on it. 3. Where can I find CD-key for Linux?? 4. Thank God Bill Gates invented email. How can I configure hotmail in kmail, evolution ? 5. Where can I get Outlook Express,Office 2000 for Linux? 6. You mean there is no VB for Linux? How do people write software then ?? 7. Yuck, what a stupid name for a programming language.. Python :( What they will come up with next? Anaconda ?? 8. I use Incredimail, Outlook. will it fit in one PC.

here is a question, thanks for answering in advance. i need a linux server to be installed. i have 10-12 windows clients. on the server i want file sharing print server backup (automatic) firewall proxy server. i have fedora core1 and samba. i will get webmin also. can u tell me wht else would i need. and what type of configuration would the machine need. one more thing, three machines have tally on them. now the solution i have thought about is to have the data of the tally saved on the linux server. the clients will receive it from there and the tally will read the data. tell me if this is possible and sugest how because i have not tried the tally part. thanks again. Dear Linux group, Linux has some inherent advantages as stability, cost less, and has hundreds of free software options. moreover no piracy issues. It is best when it comes to security and more or less immune to virus threats. Following is the list of the Disappointments with linux as of today.. May be in future it (linux) will over come. But it disappoints when it comes to deal with multimedia apps. It plays VCD but cant play DVD. Cant play OGG without using plugin. A/V chats clients are disappointing. Nero allows multi-session CD to burnt in windows which does not work in linux. Also unclosed multisession cd cant be read with out the CD writer in linux. And finally the least does anyone has tested beside knoppix the other live CD of Suse 9.1 pro, MandrakeMove 9.2 Unite to build an OS which handles everthing for everyone. Regards ID

How to patch a kernel?

Hello I have PCQLinux 2004 kernel 2.6.2-1.160. This month LFY has patch file patch 2.6.7. It is possible to patch PCQLinux 2004 with the given patch in LFY? When I tried to patch the kernel it gave lots of warning. thank you komal

Hardware wise there isn't a problem putting all this on one machine. I have 8 clients running fine off a Celeron 600MHz with 256Mb doing file/print (samba), IM server (jabber) & backup (rsync). However from the security point of view, it may be better to put your firewall & file server on separate machines. Personally I feel an OpenBSD firewall & and a Linux file server give a good blend of security & convenience. It certainly works with Tally 5.4. You just put the tally data directory on the server & modify your tally.ini file on the clients to point to that directory.
