how to install pgsql on Linux (Redhat9)

Hi there, I have a simple Query. My activity is to install pgsql on Linux Redhat9. However I installed postgresql-7.3.2.tar.gz like this.. [root]# cd /usr/local/src [root]# gzip -cd postgresql-7.3.2.tar.gz | tar xvf - [root]# cd postgresql-7.3.2 [root]# ./configure [root]# make [root]# make install [root]# adduser postgres [root]# mkdir /usr/local/pgsql/data [root]# chown postgres /usr/local/pgsql/data [root]# touch /var/log/pgsql [root]# chown postgres /var/log/pgsql But when I run the following command [root@localhost root]# su postgres [postgres@localhost root]$ /usr/local/pgsql/bin/postmaster -D /usr/local/pgsql/data FATAL: data directory "/usr/local/pgsql/data" has group or world access DETAIL: Permissions should be u=rwx (0700). [postgres@localhost root]$ I am facing the above the Above Erroris there anybody to Help me. And can I install pgsql through RPM ?? if yes plz give me Detail step by step Infofor that.. I waiting for Reply ASAP. Thanks in Advance.

X Window System - Controlling a remote client with local keyboard and mouse

Hello: Is there anyway to controlling a remote client with local keyboard and mouse. I have started a remote x app on a remote display. Is there anyway I can controll that applciation using the local keyboard and mouse. I'm particularly interested in knowing if any XF86config tweaks can be done in this regard. Have anybody tried this before? Thanks in advance Binulal Narayanan

Hi I am going to retain the old pc (IBM branded PC celeron 500 64mb RAM) The new non intel PC will be used as a desktop PC and will be networked to the old pc through a crossover cable. Although I would like a MAC but it is ruled out. I have decided on AMD. which processor and motherboard will be the best combo. Any further suggestions are also welcome Thanks Ninad

The iMac range is not terribly overpriced, but in any case it is no longer the most cost-effective option for Abhishek. That is the Mac Mini, which is a small box containing motherboard and HDD with DVD combo RW drive and a host of connectors for monitor, keyboard, mouse and network peripherals (standard IBM PC type peripherals work, so you can use your existing monitor, keyboard and mouse). It starts at under $500 (please check the Apple Store at www.apple.com for official India prices) and I am told there are already deals at other sites for better prices - check your local hardware market. You need to add Bluetooth or WiFi cards, which are extra. Doc Nagarjuna uses Gnome on his G4 laptop and so do a host of other users here in India, many on this list, who have remained silent for some unfathomable reason. The Mac Mini ought to satisfy the needs of any power Linux user. -- Vickram

>how to run exe file on red hat linux? AFAIK There is no "exe" file in linux. What you do have is files with the rwx (read write execute) attributes. So if the execute bit is set and you have access to the file, you can run the file by just typing in the filename at the shell prompt Gishu

But then would be overkill sitting on a desk. I am planing on buying an Optetron single processor mobo- Tyan has some models which are highly recommended. The problem is 64bit pci cards at 133mhz. Cant find any here. Using regular pci cards will simply bring everthing to square one. rgds jtd
