Awesome. A single day has seen a 100% increase in the team size.
Our resident CA on ILUG is around and committed. He will definitely jump in
formally as soon as he gets around to reading this.
And we need not just CAs. Accountants, business people, troublemongers, testers,
jholers, etc too who can give practical inputs on their requirements. While
current Packages dwell into the inventory aspects, not all needs of inventory
management are met. Not all needs of reporting are met.
Such individuals can provide valuable input for that too.
Is there any way the other LUGs can be spoken to? Pune and Bangalore? I am pretty
confident that there are many enthusiasts like yourself around who have done a
lot of coding. So someone needs to take the best of all and put it together.
I think it's the last mile that needs the walking.

channel or mailing list, feel free to say so.

Always give as specific a subject line as possible. a generic heading such as
"problem" or "hello" will discourage users from responding to you.
exe files are not executable on Linux distros under default conditions (some
exceptions).
You will need to run them using WINE (http://www.winehq.org) or CrossOverOffice.
This simulates the windows environment upto the extent of letting u run lot of
executables. They may or may not run correctly.
While Wine is free CrossOver is a paid product built around wine.
Xandros 3.0 has CrossOver office bundled which otherwise is available for a 30
day evaluation version or a $40 download for the full version.
If you .exe requires only DOS to execute, then you can install DOSEMU which as
the name suggests is a dos emulator.
hope this helps.

I don't think you can 'upgrade' to Debian. They are different distros or OS'es to speak
So to install Debian.. Just install it over RHL. Take a back up of your data to another partition if reqd.

You have a wide selection out there.
there are AMD based systems and then there are the mean Mac Machines. Which
pretty much leaves you with AMD or AMD. Now that was just the processor
motherboard part.
Assuming that everything else such as RAM, Drives etc fall under the category of
"it depends", the only differentiators are the motherboard+cpu.
What are you planning to do with the old celeron board? Want to throw it this
way?

I have this working except that it is linked via Win. (+ I have a switch)
I use Netmeeting to do whatever you said above. Dunno what is the counterpart in the Linux world ?
I googled a bit and it seems that you can even turn on a Linux box for another m/c to netmeet... groovy. But it looks easier said than done

Ninad, man X and man xinit.
VNC, remote desktop et al. will serve your purpose too, but the best way is to use the X server's excellent characteristics here.
Thanks

Hi
I have 2 pcs.I will call them as follows
New PC(N) and old PC (O)
N is a brand new pc with P4.2.4ghz,256mbRAM,40G HDD,D845GVSR mother
board etc. It is triple booting with XP and FC3 and Ubuntu warty
O is a old IBM pc PII 500mhz,64mb ram and CD rom drive. I have
reserved this Pc to load only open source .It is running only
Ubuntu warty
I have connected these 2 with a crossover cable.
However I have only one monitor/keyboard and mouse.
Is there a way by which I can access the desktop of O and issue
commands from N with the help of software.i.e I log in to FC3 on N and
access the Ubuntu desktop of O and say issue commands run
applications on O
I have heard of some tools but do not know whether they will work or
are suitable for my purpose.for e.g. Xserver,VNC,nfs
I do not want to buy any special hardware
Thanks and regards
