CAVEAT: i am not a lawyer, and this isn't legal advice. it is only meant to provoke further investigation. Hi, there's this section 43 of the Indian IT Act, 2000, which says in subsection b, that [any person who, *without the owner's permission*] ==quote== (b) downloads, copies or extracts any data, computer data base or information from such computer, computer system or computer network including information or data held or stored in any removable storage medium; ==end quote== [could stand to be fined to the tune of up to a crore rupees]. this is sufficiently vague for the authorities to screw people who have not been permitted by sify to work with their cryptography. of course, the law doesn't apply if your name is raju ;) best suhit kelkar.

Shutup and move on. I've heard that before Rajeev and its exactly what i did some years ago, went upstream to contribute and be more productive. It works just fine. 2. Local Lugs? Zilch. Nada. Nothing to see in your local LUG. (and this comes from men who contribute code, men who I've spoken to IRL, wrote to me off-list and what snippets from IRC). 3. Denial. "Nothing is wrong. Everything is fine here (read LUG)". Get labelled "belligerent", "militant feminist", etc .. (and i have logs collected over the years to prove this) because you called out a bully and said "stop bullying". Nice !! Women don't participate in LUG activities? Cant blame them, I would'nt either. 4. Crass humour. You said the same above with "A witty and sarcastic barb is much better, IMHO". Object and one gets a response : "It was a joke! Don't you have a sense of humour?". The gate-keepers are more intent on protecting "freedom of speech" for loud-mouths who have turned nastiness into an art form. 5. I'm a Geek. I'm first, you came in later. Remain in your place, woman !! This is a *our* space and you (women) have to be thick-skinned to tolerate bullying, name calling, intimidation, online stalking and personal attacks, usually indulged in by a very small subset of highly vocal individual(s). Never openly and always subtle. 6. Ignore. Another way to say #3.Everything is fine here. You are the problem. 7. Take it off-list. Another easy way to make it more difficult for her to prove she is being harassed since private conversations are just that. Private. Maintain the dense cloud of ambiguity. 8. Open. Our community already has <insert token number> women who are doing just great. The rest dont bother to show up, participate, make the effort. Something is wrong with the majority. 9. Celebrate boorish behaviour. Rinse. Repeat. Result : Why waste time jumping over loops. Easier to stay away. Libre software does *not* demand contribution from all. Those who do volunteer, do it because they care or want to. You dont need to recognise that but telling them to "shutup" and "ignore problems" is neither polite nor helpful. And this "staying away" is not restricted to women and has nothing to do with gender. Men stay away too. Folks can adopt an ostrich-like attitude, because Everything_IS_Fine, really !! a small suggestion

List has been really old and there are several members who might have subscribed and forgotten or lost interest. We are seeing huge number of unwanted emails The list is for serious people who want to help and want to be helped ( thats the objective, pls dont debate the current state ) Can we have all list members confirm their membership once again so that people who are not serious and do not reply in X number of days can unsubscribed with due notification / reminder whatever process ? Because here we are not looking for number of members we are looking for quality. Also for members who willingly / accidentally spam the list with invites should be removed from the list and if they are serious about being around can join back with an explanation instead of going into a loop and eventually fighting Also it will be appreciated if the list owners will redistribute the list guidelines for the benefit of fellow members and include relevant suggestions from other members. These are only my suggestion. I encourage list admins to think about them and members to reply simple Vote + 1 / - 1 or list admins to setup a poll. folks, I need help with testing Indian calendars in KDE

Hi, I would appreciate if anyone can confirm this bug and respond to https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=185093 I'm almost done with the saka calendar, but now the calendar applet itself seems to be broken for all calendars except gregorian. I have noticed that the subject of the "most informative discussion" has been changed more than 4 times and this is not leading anywhere. Infact you guys just lost the chance to beat the World ML Record of most responses to a thread by 133 replies. So in the future please use at-least this subject and provide your most valuable inputs so that we could hit the world record. Hello, Here are a few suggestions that will hopefully help members of this list enjoy their stay here and avoid the flame wars that keep flaring up and take up precious bandwidth. Just like a doze machine that has its resources eaten up by viruses, spam, spyware and bloatware, we could all contribute towards reducing flame wars and promote better relations among members. Here are some guide lines we could all follow. 1. We are all guests on this list, which means we have to abide by the host's (list's) rules and regulations. It includes abiding by the rules of moderation which is necessary for any public list. Without moderation there is chaos. 2. We have not created this list but have joined it for the purpose of being in touch with other GNU/Linux users of Mumbai. Our rights and privileges on this list are limited and not absolute. 3. If we had created this list then members would have the freedom to leave it whenever they found our messages insulting or personally attacking. However since this list is created by others and we are only guests here, it can be a very difficult and embarrassing situation for one guest to find that he/she is being attacked by another guest. 4. This is a public list with the scope of discussions limited to Open Source / Free Software, Software Freedom and occasionally technology related matters off topic, there is absolutely NO scope for discussions on social or political issues unless they are directly related to incidents of use or restriction of use of Free Software in rare cases. 5. Personal matters and feelings have no place on this list and this list is not to be taken personally in any way. This also means that we cannot allow our personal feelings, however strong and passionate about certain issues, to influence our communication as well as responses to others' messages. 6. There is freedom to disagree with others' points of view but this is in no way a consent to verbally attack the person. It should be noted by all members that harsh criticisms as well as ridicules of a member or his/her messages are equally insulting to that member, just like personal attacks and all members should refrain from doing it, however strongly or passionately they feel about certain issues. This also includes observing restraint by older members. 7. If a member has made a mistake or accidentally broken list rules then he/she should be made aware of the error in a polite way even if it involves putting the member under moderation or removal from this list. No member is justified to use harsh or insulting words towards the erring member. 8. When replying to members of the opposite sex, members must be careful not to use any words, phrases or sentences that comment in any way on the gender of the opposite member. This reduces the scope of any misunderstanding and reduces the chances of any member complaining of gender bias against another member. 9. Although this list has no place for personal feelings, all members must look upon fellow members as virtual or internet friends and just as in real life, they must be accommodating towards other members in case they err or make mistakes. Don't we expect the same treatment from other members towards us. 10. We are not just members of the list but also its salespersons. We have to present our GLUG in the best possible way to others so that more members can join in and make this community larger and happier. Naturally this starts with being proud of our GLUG and doing whatever is possible to spread knowledge and happiness to others and promote peaceful and cordial relations amongst all members.
