External eSATA hard disk mounting problem

Hi, I hava a eSATA external hard disk. The units does not show up when I plug it in after the system boots up (Fedora 9), but is available when it has been switched on before the system is booted. From a Google search, I found the command "echo "---">/sys/class/scsi_host/host{n}/scan" which made the external disk be mounted automatically. I checked that there is a directory "/sys/class/scsi_host/host{0-6}" and a file "scan" which has a permission of "-w-------". Can anyone explain how this command works, or give some pointers for further reading? Thanks and regards. sadhu

Bulletin boards using free software

Hi all, I have seen international bulletin boards (forums to be more exact) using free software like phpbb, SMF (Simple Machines Forum) but most forums which are dedicated either tech or anything else most seem to go for a proprietary board like vbulletin . Does anybody know of good boards which use any GPL/BSD or any soft or hard copyleft license . I am looking for forums and boards where atleast 10-15 people are posting daily and it doesn't have to be tech. So any topic is ok. The content of the thing being licensed was not the matter of relevance, the context was. I am sure, it was relevant news to everybody involved in FOSS when the CC was created. It was relevant news when the CC was first adopted in a big way (possibly in the release of books or music licensed under CC by some big publishing house, or in the way that google offered a CC specific search). In the same manner the fact that a news network is offering media under a *free* (as in freedom) license, does make it worth a post on such a mailing list. If 'peers' choose to disagree, well, so be it -- that'll define the character of this mailing list. KDE4 - Does anyone build and use the trunk?

Hi. Is there anyone here who builds and uses KDE4 from the subversion repository? I'd like to hear about your experience(s) - never could successfully build and use KDE4 after they moved to cmake (and a new core) simultaneously. So, have been sticking to the 'kde-redhat' builds. Looking for someone who can help me jumpstart... Thanks, jaju
