I have a HP PSC 1210 printer. It used to work perfectly on Fedora Core
1 (kernel 2.4.x). I had to put the default printer and scanner drivers
into the /etc/hotplug/blacklist file so that the hpoj driver could
handle the same.
After upgrading to FC2, the printer is no longer detected. The module
names have changed to usblp and usbscanner I think, so I blacklisted
those, but it makes no difference.
printer doesn't get detected.
Any ideas?

I know I can always google for virus scanners available for linux
based email gateways, but what I want to know is people's experience
with them.
How easy / difficult is it to set them up for a large organisation?
How effective are they?
How frequently can you update them?
Is there an auto-learning phase involved? What are the pro's and cons
of such auto-learning scanners?

Actually Google is very high on humor, which shows to me that they
are not just commercial cold-blooded types - you probably know that
they have one of the world's highest concentration of PhDs in a
commercial organisation. The simple web page, on which they often
reflect global events through fun modifications of their logo (right
now, every day is a new Olympic event) I think shows a good attitude.
Can you imagine a Microsoft or Sun playing with the logo on their
main site?
There are many other examples of irony (even anti-Bush administration
jokes, and anti-MS) they make through Easter eggs planted in the I'm
Feeling Lucky option - but I don't think this is the forum for
exchanging all of them. In fact, since these jokes are not taken
down, it is clear the Google management tacitly approves, so they
aren't really classic Easter eggs, though the jokes themselves are
classic.
Against this, I am afraid I find many commercial Linux distro
companies totally short on humor of any kind. If anyone would care to
correct me, most welcome.

I have an IBM laptop. I have upgraded the hdd to a 20g from a 6g hdd. I have
(had ?) FC2 on hda2 w/ home on hda6. hda5 is swap. I then loaded debian
testing froma netisntall CD and then I loaded x-windows and some other
software online.
Partitioning of the disk was done previoulsy using tomsrtbt.
Grub of FC2 is on hda2 and grub of debian os on hda3. hda2 is the active
partition.
After installing debian testing, I am unable to boot into FC2. I get the
following errors and things come to a standstill.
----------------------------------------------
Updtaing /etc/fstab: Unable to open /etc/fstab for writing: Read only file
system.
touch: cannot touch '/var/lock/subsys/kudzu': Read only file system
touch: cannot touch '/var/lock/subsys/iptables': Read only file system
Starting system logger:

the system just waits here and goes no further.

Sharukh.
ps.: see my other mail for my debian woes :(
pps.: I am using the web interface for this email so please excuse me if the
lines don't wrap.

Ofcourse they did. it's obvious that the ppl who made it can manipulate it.

I don't think so. Google uses open source software.
Probably it's just their way of expressing what they feel about the entire SCO
issue.

Hi,
SCO has snatched the crown from Microsoft as open source
evangelist's punching bag. It was hilarious to know that conspiracy
theorists on this list were spinning stories about google
manipulating the results. As any technology google's page ranking
mechanism has it's flaws. When many people link to a webpage like
this <a href=www.sco.com> bastards </a> the rank for sco.com for
the keywords bastards goes up. This is known as a "google bomb"
This will happen when many bloggers do this kinds of links.
Just goes to show the "power of blogging".

It may not have any thing to do with google making a change. Google uses some type of ranking based on number of times a word comes in a linked page (never bothered with details). This has been used in the past, most famous being linking evil or something to microsoft website. Google removed it when it became popular and comon knowledge.
There are lots of documents on how to take a google ranking up. This one is done by community effort. If many different websites same the same thing, ranking goes up.
