Once u download mail u have consumed some of your quota and payed
for it. Filtering after that only saves u the hassle of reading /
deleting the junk from your box.

Yours. Amongst others. But u would be concerned about your bills
i suppose.

Very good points Philip. I think you may already have a tool for some of the above shortcomings in linux ..
#include <std_disclaimer.h> .. /* Now, I havent tried this in much detail myself, so I am not in a position to comment on any potential issues with it..*/
> - Per session configuration by a user
KDE has kprinter dialog which is common to all KDE applications. Using a KDEPrint plugin for CUPS, you can use it like a wrapper for CUPS. You can also setup other apps to use it as your default printer, (IF it allows you to change its print command from lpr to "kprinter --stdin" ) .. this way, you can arrive at a common dialog for most applications.
see.. (http://printing.kde.org/faq/kdeprint.php) and (http://printing.kde.org/overview/kprinter.php)

I think it also allows a "per-user" basis settings, which should avoid any "domestic conflict" scenarios you mentioned in your mail. (http://ait.web.psi.ch/services/linux_new/guides/user/printer/)
there's a kjobviewer tool with this package, which may have some of the feedbacks/alerts you are looking for... but as I said before.. I havent really used this myself.. so cannot comment on how good it is..

Hello,
Printing subsystem always baffles me. Printing in windows is very
intuitive and easy. If I fire print job and if print cord is not
connected to printer or printer is offline print spooler flashes
warning within few seconds. But in Linux once print job is fired it is
lost in black hole. Even if printer is offline or printer is not
connected print spooler doesn't inform about it. I have tired lpd,
lprng and CUPS all are more or less same. I wonder printing is so
flaky in Linux?
Thanks

Komal
>Hi Jon, when are you leaving? We have not had any meet for

It's been a long time since we have had a Lug meeting Anurag.
What I'm suggesting some of you may not like it hey it's just an idea
that we have been tinkering with for some time, why can't few of the
guys meet and just have a discussion on any or all topics or problems
they have
Why do we need to organise a classroom like atmosphere with one
person giving a talk on some subject....(man I had enough of that
during college)
Actually I was one of those who went to meet John Masters (British
visitor seeks linuxers)he made a interesting point that one of the
Lugs groups around London actually meet up once a month at a Curry
house and just discuss what each other are doing and what problems
they face...
I'm game for the idea of sitting in a coffee shop and discussing
(remember Barista's I think we discussed more there than we discussed
in MET). No don't get me wrong I do not advertise or promote Barista.
but what I'm saying is we could meet any where even at khar promenade
or juhu who cares as long as LIKE MINDED PEOPLE meet and talk...
